3.0 out of 5 stars A no nonsense Triathlon watch, which syncs FASTTT
By c8 on November 27, 2018
If I have only one sentance to describe the Coros Pace, it's a GARMIN without the frills.
Although it looks like a Garmin, button layout and menus are quite different.
The band and charger are also not compatible with a Garmin...confirmed with a Garmin FR235.....Just bought a cheap FR235 band out of cuirosity and it actually fits. only 2mm smaller, just trim a little bit of the old bands to cover up the lugs if the tiny gap bothers you. Else its a good investment, considering if you wearit 24/7 and find the originals too expensive.

Pros
- make no mistake, the usage philosophy of the Pace is the total opposite of a Garmin. The Pace is a no-frills watch unlike the Garmin which does everything and also where you pay for features you don't need after the initial novalty wears off.
- syncs VERY fast to Strava
- has openwater swimming, actually ONLY Swim (Pool/Openwater), Run (Threadmill/Outdoors), Bike (Trainer/Outdoors)
- GPS locks on very fast, has Beidou and Glonass but I havent tried yet....
- GPS battery life is very good, at least MUCH better than my Suunto Spartan Trainer....you wont see the PACE drain its life out with a 2 hr ride!
- 3 days and 3 hours of GPS and I am stillleft with 79% (batterylife is really good)
- swimming laps in the pool is very accurate

Cons
- not enough watchfaces (at least do a no-frills one with Date-Time-HR-Steps with white background and fat fonts)
- getting used to the button/menu layout. Perhaps I am too used to a 5 button layout already.
- AUTO-PAUSE is not very responsive, takes about 20 or 30 secs when I stop at a traffic stop before it pauses.
- spare bands are really costly...surely Coros can do something about it...

Things you may want to know
- bandwidth is 24mm (Garmin 235 22mm)
- lug width is 17mm (Garmin 235 15mm)...but it fits anyway if you are not bothered by the 2mm of lugs showing.
- I suspect FR225 band might fit....waiting for mine to

<Updates on 8 Dec 2018>
- the upload is no doubt very fast, but once the watch disconnects with the phone, there is no way it can reconnect unless you task kill the app (making it the same as any other watch/app) contrary to that as a selling point.
- sleep tracking is non-existent, some days it appears on the mobile, somedays it doesnt.

<Updates on 19 Dec 2018>
- I hope Coros can trickle down the Training Coaching functionality to the Pace too, the bare bones "functional" watch is getting kind of boring. I may consider selling it and getting a Garmin soon....check out apps download in Google Store and its barely 1000+, bet sales are crawling and result of that is that cheap after-market charging cables and bands are very hard to come by even on Aliexpress.......maybe it wasn't a good choice after all....downgrading to 3 star for the lack of progress in firmware...
