The only downside of the book is the first-person, present tense narration. I'm not a fan of first-person narration in general, but I usually tolerate it (since it's becoming so popular). However, this time I felt that if the story had been told from an external point of view, it could have been better. As it is, lots of time is spent going over and over again on Mildred's routine, and it seems that she never does anything beside going in her room and sleep every single day. Also, the romance is a little bit hasted, and the ending, too, with Mildred's final confrontation with her boss, comes a little bit unexpected. I would have preferred a story developing longer in time, to really make Mildred's relationship more believable and to focus more on the "approach" of the final confrontation.
Nonetheless, the book is worth the reading. It's a nice escape to a magical world that, in the end, is not so different from our "mundane" one.
