Corruption of the Heart is a paranormal romance unlike any other. Nevertheless, you need to know that is has a cliffhanger. Therefore, if you don't like then, it may be best to wait for the sequel to be out. I do hope there is a sequel since there are some situations that were left unsolved and questions unanswered.
This novel tells the story of Lilith an introvert orphan that is in no rush to make a place for herself in her new home. She was likable at times but there were moments where I couldn't help but scold or shout at her for her impulsiveness and stupidity. I don't think this is a bad trait at all. In fact, my literature teacher from high school told me this: A book is great only if it makes you feel something strongly, be it love, hate or even disgust. I do believe this book fulfills the love and hate parts. I hated with all my heart the betrayals that our heroine had to suffer because they broke something inside of me too. I loved her strength and even admired her impulsiveness, to some point. I do believe Lilith will catch your attention, just like she did with mine.
On the other hand, there is the plot. I do wish I could give 5 stars to the book. Nevertheless, there were some cliches every now and then in the main plot. Don't be disappointed, though. I didn't lie when I said the author makes this book unique. There is even a love triangle. Personally, I love those. I know many dislike them. However, I think they allow you to see how strong are some bounds and the devotion a character has for the other. Also, I love seeing some cute jealous scenes every now and then. Then again, that is my opinion. I won't go into specific plot details but I can tell you that Lilith is a paranormal creature unlike any other. Therefore, her destiny is much more complex and difficult than any other. She will be betrayed, hurt and destroyed in a way that will move you. You will be with her every step of the way and, while doing so, you will realize that maybe, just maybe, there is some hope.
I highly recommend this novel to any paranormal romance lover that loves some classical themes with unique twists.
Lilith is seventeen year old and has recently moved to Maine to live with her aunt as she doesn't have anyone else. She keeps to herself and isn't in a hurry to make new friends in her new environment. She likes to read and spend a lot of time in the school library.
She is approached by Ambi who usually hangs out with a group of boys. They don't mingle with anyone else either. Odin, one of the boys in the group is attracted to her and she has been watching him when she thinks that he isn't looking. They become friends but the electricity between them sparkles with just one look. Her eighteeth birthday is fast approaching and she finds out that her life is about to change.
Then she has to face the dilemma of having to make a choice when her true nature is revealed. She is in mortal danger and betrayal leads her to a near death situation. This has the most unexpected effect where Lilith discovers that she is stronger than she thinks. In a supernatural way!
Lilith has been through some tough experiences which have left her with psychological scars. I felt that she can be contrary and impulsive but her intentions are good. Whilst some things are beyond her control, on occasions she takes advantage of her newly acquired abilities. Odin is lovable and has the patience of a saint. Most of the guys in Odin's group are likable but for unkown reasons, I am not sure about Tristian.
This novel is slow to begin with and builds up gradually. I soon found myself absorbed in the story but then it just stops. There is no indication that this is the first part of a series but there are some secrets to be revealed and whatever Lilith finds at the end leaves a major cliffhanger. Who?
I sure hope that there is a sequel as there are too many unanswered questions and unresolved situations. Overall, it's a fascinating concept with all the right ingredients for a paranormal romance.
I received a complimentary eARC and the views expressed are my personal opinion.
Lilith learns that on her eighteenth birthday that she will become a vampire-witch hybrid. When a female vampire is born a mate is chosen for her at birth but there was a mistake made when Lilith was born she was given two mates. On her eighteenth birthday Lilith must choose which one of the two guys will be her one true mate.
Someone out there doesn’t like Lilith who doesn’t want her to live to see the day of her transformation and would like to see her dead. Who is this person that doesn’t want her to transform? Who wants her dead?
When I read the summary for Corruption of the Heart and saw that it was about a young girl that would become a vampire-witch hybrid I knew I had to read it as I love reading about vampires and witches but a hybrid. Oh yeah. I loved the world that the author has created and the whole new twist on vampires. I can’t wait to read more about Lilith, Odin, Ambi and the rest of the crew in the next book. At least I hope there will be a next book.
If you have not read Corruption of the Heart and you love reading about vampires and witches like I do then let me suggest that you pick up your copy of Corruption of the Heart today and get lost in the amazing world of a vampire-witch hybrid.
