Right Solution for Toshiba Satellite

I have an older Toshiba that was so slow to launch applications I could not bear to turn it on, but it resides at another residence and is handy for myself or visitors to catch up with internet and email. This was the correction the machine needed and was easily installed. No longer do I need to wait 30 minutes for Start Up! I did have to go with 667MHz even though Toshiba's website had suggested a Kingston 800MHz solution. I tried that one first at twice the price and after working with the tech support from Toshiba I discovered that 667 was the limit. Amazon made it easy for me to return and exchange. Happy for Amazon customer support!

When pondering what to do with my five year old laptop I decided to check various alternatives. Finally I decided that a memory upgrade and a new hard drive would be a cost effective solution. Others may argue that this would be a waste of money but rather like an old well worn pair of leather soled shoes I felt the repair option would be a valid route. Corsair memory is, in my experience, a good budget purchase. On this occasion the memory, complete with fitting instructions, arrived in a sealed plastic package. This was in turn swathed in a bubble protected outer packet thus ensuring its protection in the postal system. Fitting the memory was easy, the performance improvement was immediately noticeable. At the same time as the memory upgrade I also installed a new hard drive and with Ubuntu as my chosen OS I now easily achieve a one minute start up time, this with no 'windows is upgrading messages' to delay my work is such a boon, I feel like my old laptop has been re-born!
