The reason I replaced my PSU was I moved from Europe to America. It was in Europe I replaced the factory PSU with a replacement unit. 99% of the computers made have a universal input voltage, but the electronic store where I was only had 220-volt input. But, I did learn from that experience that my factory PSU, 350watt, prevented me from realizing full range stereo audio. Before I upgraded to 500 watt my computer volume was set on full and yet the sound was puny. 500 watt was what I needed to edit video.Based on others recommendation I went with the Corsair. Thus far, flawless performance. Attractive box, black exhaust screen shows up on my computer tower case. The CX500 has an over-abundance of connectors that would make a gamer happy. The massive wiring harness is bulky. The wires are collected into fishnet mesh pipes. In a mid-sized tower computer box I have to really tie the wires tightly to avoid the CPU fan. So, the only gripe is the bulky wire harness. The package does include nylon wire ties (and you will need them). The unit runs cool and silent even under the heaviest of loads, ex: running a video rendering overnight.

I did my best researching PSU's for my 4 year old HP Pavilion a1630n. I had upgraded my video card not too long ago to the max wattage my PSU would handle (I was informed this would not be a problem), but about a year later, the computer would not start at all. No lights, no sound, nothing. I researched the problem on the HP website and after troubleshooting the problem came to the conclusion the PSU had died. Note: my friends in tech had verified that the PSU was indeed the problem. I came to find out later that it was a good thing the motherboard did not go out also.
Upon further research, I found out that HP Pavilion PSU for that unit is a particular weakness of the design. Searching online, I found that Corsair PSU's have gotten high grades; so rather than going the cheap route but still staying within my means, I decided to opt for this model at Amazon. The PSU's physical dimensions were the right size.
The PSU arrived as expected and I handed the PSU to my IT friends to install. (I am good at research but not so good at hardware installations.) At first, he was having problems installing the PSU, but decided that he had better read the PSU installation instructions (Doh!).
It is very quiet and has no problems at all. I particularly like that the fan is variable speed and that the unit is able to handle fluctuating voltage situations. The 80 percent efficiency is a nice bonus also. It fit nicely in my computer chassis. The wires were long enough. The computer chassis is relatively cool to the touch.
So far, I have nothing but good things to say about this PSU <knock on wood>. The 430 watts is a nice upgrade from 300 watts also. If it lasts 4 years like my first PSU, if my computer does not die of obsolescence first, it will be well worth the investment.
Please note: I do not consider myself an IT expert and this is my very first product review.

I am an IT professional and have 4 desktops, 3 of them being in a lab environment, so when I fire up my lab, I have 3 PCs running which produces a lot of heat and uses a lot of electricity, so I decided to replace the 400W non-energy compliant power supplies with 4 of these. So far I have to give it 5 stars as I have not found any issues after about 2 months of use.

Runs quiet and cool and has enough connectors for my needs (4 SATA or less). The wires are shielded and thick, so they do look "cleaner" than if you have non-shielded wires, but I can see how they could be difficult to work with in a smaller case with little room. Also comes with tie wraps for the wires. I ran pre and post install power consumption tests using a P3 International Kill A Watt meter and the power consumption of these 430W power supplies was considerable less than with the previous power supplies (about 20-30% on average).

The power output (430W) works fine for me on all 4 computers although I run only on-board graphics. The specs of my two highest power consumption PC are:

-- MSI mobo with AMD 965 Black Edition 3.4 GHz Quad Core(no OC), 4x2GB (8GB) OCZ Platinum DDR-800 latency of 4-3-3-12, 2x120mm 3-speed fans, 2xWD 300GB Velociraptors in a RAID 0 and a dual layer SATA DVD drive with Lightscribe
-- ASUS mobo with Intel Q9650 3GHz Quad Core(no OC), 4x4GB (16GB) OCZ DDR2-800 latency 5-5-5-18, dual 300GB Velociraptors in RAID 0, 2x80mm fans, and a dual layer SATA DVD with Lightscribe.

Both systems run Win 7 64 Enterprise with power settings on High Performance (needed for my IT testing and VMs) and I use stock CPU fans that come with the respective processor.

I believe that this PS would be sufficent for most people, but may not be enough for higher end systems such as dual processors (not to be confused with dual-core), high end graphics/dual graphics, more than 4 SATA devices, or high OverClocking situations in which the power draw is increased and there is a requirement for higher end cooling measures.

I was looking for a decent PSU to replcae my stock 300w in order to run a video card upgrade (Radeon 6850 nothing super fancy). Up until now I have had no problems with the 300w PSU but I needed another pin connector and more wattage due to the upgrade. Installation went fine and there was plenty of cabling to go around (too much for me really but I have a smaller case so I would think this would be a plus for others).

I received my Corsair PSU and it worked alright for about a week. I could hear the high pitched ringing when the pc was off, but otherwise seemed stable and cool. Then down the hill it went... mid gaming, the pc shut down and would not make it back to reboot. It was easy to spot the PSU as the problem. I took out my video card and used onboard graphics, would not boot. I put my old PSU back in and bam...back up and running. No other error logs no other hardware faults. RMA back to Amazon and figured I try again. This time I got 1 day out of the replacement Corsair PSU. No ringing this time, but it died again. Fool me twice, shame on me :P

Seems like the breakdown percentage is high on this PSU line from Corsair, and I certainly experienced that. I would think twice about buying one of these. Buyer beware! If you like Russian Roulette then proceed with the purchase.

Forget what other people say. This unit is power packed, has a lot of extensions and is stunningly silent.

The cables are neatly packed together just like any other PSUs in it's class.

I have connected my sound card, 500W graphics card, 2 1 TB hard disks, 1 Blu-ray and 1 DVD/CD drives and still have room for plenty more connections.

Stop being confused and get this one ! I guarantee ;-)
