From the Manufacturer

The Air Series AF140 fans let you have it all. Eleven ultra-thin, custom-molded blades push ample air volume. Rubber corners dramatically reduce vibration. The advanced hydraulic bearing system is quiet and reliable, and you can customize the look with the three included colored rings.

The ultra-thin blades are custom-molded for high-volume air delivery with low noise, while rubber corners reduce vibration and noise.
High Airflow for Efficient Large-Volume Cooling

Air Series AF fan models perform best in unrestricted spaces with at least 3cm of clearance, and they’re ideal for mounting at the rear or top of your PC case as exhaust fans for your PC’s motherboard and CPU, graphics accelerators, and other components that fill the case with heat. They work equally well as unrestricted intake fans for areas like side panels or bottom intakes.

For high restriction areas like hard drive cages or in other tight spaces where there’s less air volume, check out our Air Series SP models of high static pressure fans.

I really like the Corsair "Quiet Edition"fans; I replaced all of the fans in my new Corsair Vengeance Series Military Green C70 Mid Tower Computer Case (CC-9011018-WW) with "Quiet Edition" fans.

You can find out all the technical details about Corsair fans at the Corsair website (Products, Cooling, Air Series Fans). There are two lines of fans: the "Performance Edition" fans and the "Quiet Edition" fans. As these names imply, the former have higher air flows while the later operate more quietly (at lower air flows).

There are two "Quiet Edition" models: the AF model and the SP model. The AF model is used when air flow is unrestricted (such as the exhaust fan at the back of the case); the SP model is used when air flow is restricted (such as air flow through drive bays or through a radiator/cooler).

The AF120 and the SP120 are 120 mm fans while the AF140 is a 140 mm fan: Corsair Air Series AF120 Quiet Edition Single Fan (CO-9050001-WW), Corsair Air Series SP120 Quiet Edition Single Fan (CO-9050005-WW), Corsair Air Series AF140 Quiet Edition Single Fan (CO-9050009-WW).

There are some really great review videos for the Corsair fans on a popular video website. The review on the TastyPC channel was particularly helpful to me, since it quite clearly compared the air flows and noise levels of the various fans.

I've purchased a total of 3 of these fans and 2 of the 120mm version and have overall been happy with them. These fans are mounted in a Corsair 300R case and controlled by the built in fan headers on an Asus Z87 Pro motherboard. At max speed, they do produce a noticeable sound, but almost never see max speed. The Asus board can reliably control them down to about 350 rpm, and that is where they normally stay, and produce essentially no noise. The rotational noise from my 2 7200 rpm hard drives is more noticeable during normal operation. The operating characteristics of the fan warrant five stars.

However, the mounting system on these fans leaves a bit to be desired. Each corner of the fan has a gray rubber vibration isolator snapped into place. In each of the isolators, there are two hard plastic inserts molded into place. The self tapping screws thread into the hard plastic inserts to secure the fan in place. The screws provided are slightly too big or the inserts are slightly too small, depending on how you look at it. The end result is that the screws are very hard to turn when installing. If you don't hold the vibration isolators stationary, they will often rotate out of the fan frame under the torque required to install the screws. One screw was so tight that while installing (holding the vibration isolator stationary), the hard plastic insert tore out of the vibration isolator under the torque required to install the screw.

This brings me to the next loss of a star. Corsair Support, or lack thereof. Upon damaging the mount due to improperly sized hardware, I submitted an online tech support ticket via the Corsair website asking for a replacement vibration isolator assembly.

I was initially hesitant to replace my Antec 300's stock top exhaust fan with this as there didn't seem to be much of an improvement on paper. Once installed however there was a significant reduction in noise despite similar airflow performance at a given RPM.

Though the rubber mounts required a bit more force to get screwed in properly, they removed the humming previously generated by the stock fan as it reverberated the top of the case. The decorative ring can be removed completely if you prefer an all-black look as I do. Compared to the fan on my Corsair PSU it is practically inaudible.

I was hoping this would be quieter than the fans that came with my Corsair 450D airflow edition case. I installed 2 in the front of the case, replacing the original fans, and I didn't notice ANY difference in noise OR performance. Pretty disappointing. These might be an improvement over the stock fans for some people with cheaper cases, but definitely not worth it for people that went with Corsair Obsidian series cases.

I love the Corsair Air Series 140 and 120s because they move a lot of air without the cost of noise. They allow you to customize it for your case fan with the different rings and are easy to replace/swap. The cabling is adequate but not super long. This maybe a downside if you have a fan in the rear with a fan controller at the front of your case and need to manage the wire behind the motherboard tray. Another option I couldn't find was PWM versions of this without the LED. (I maybe wrong) The packaging of the device is very clean, its comes in a nice looking box and overall tightly packaging making sure stuff doesn't move in transit. I have 3 of these in a Corsair 760T which provide a very clean look and very quiet.
