My only gripe is that it is not modular, so cable management was pretty much impossible. This is no fault of Corsair or the PSU, though. It was a mistake on my part, as at the time I didn't know the difference between a modular and regular supply, and went the cheap route.
For my build, this thing is definitely overkill. I have a Radeon HD 4870, one 750GB HDD, one DVD Burner, and an AMD Phenom II 955 CPU, cooled by 4 fans (one of which is a giant exhaust fan). I doubt I'm drawing more than perhaps 600-700W of power.
From the moment I opened the box, I knew that I was right to choose Corsair. They treat their craft with skill and delicacy, and I will definitely go with them again.
bottom line: great power supply
So other then the little installtion problem that I had this PSU has worked a treat, never had any power issues. Built like a rock that conducts electricity, AND has a good power rating. The only thing that I ever had a problem with was the cable lengths, but that's more then likely due to me overlooking such an unlikely issue. It is at the moment running a water cooler with 3 fans, 3 120mm fans to push the air around. A Nvidia SLI configuration, 4 Hard drives, an ssd, an overclocked cpu 3.4 to 5.2, AND a series of leds. This is a solid PSU and will probably be able to take more punishment had I found another way to do so.
This is a great PSU despite the problems with cable lengths, most systems wont ever need to reach as far as mine did.
I'm using 3 8800GTS cards in an triple SLI config on an ASUS P6T6 revolution. i7 975 is my processor and I have a Crucial 256MB SSD and a Maxtor SATAII IDE. The case is an ANTEC 1200 with 7 fans in it.
So with all that crap I have in the box the PSU works like a champ and it looks nice through the clear window of the case.
It comes with:
1- Lots of cable management wires
2- MOBO power supply
3- CPU power supply
4- 4 PCIe power supplies
5- 2 SATA power cables with 5 extension on each
6- 2 fan power cables with 5 extensions on each
You can't beat its functionality and price
and since I was also upgrading my GTS 8800 to two GTS 450's in SLI I thought I would go with
a 850 watt. I did the upgrade about 3 weeks ago and so far everything is working fine.
The Corsair 850 watt runs quite and cool.
The package arrived on time and in excellent condition. The packaging inside the corsair box is good quality, so even if the box had been banged around the power supply would be protected. The special soft bag seems superfluous, but it gives you a good feeling for how this PS has been treated.
The PS fit and secured comfortably in the ATX power supply position in the case.
The cables are long enough to easily reach all the hardware in a Cooler Master Cosmos 1000 full sized case.
Seems plenty quiet... but that might be the case which has design features for noise reduction.
There is a good assortment of connector types and a good number of each. Of course that's all stated in the specs.
So far, two thumbs up.
