Product Description

DOMINATOR Airflow fan is designed to be matched with the DOMINATOR heat sinks and allows even more heat to be removed from the DHX XMS2 DOMINATOR modules. The DOMINATOR Airflow fan unit contains three 40mm tachometer-controlled fans to provide impinging airflow to the memory subsystem. With the moderate RPMs required to provide adequate forced air the DOMINATOR Airflow fan is nearly silent.

You're probably better of just having a Antec SpotCool over your ram like I did, facing it slightly backwards than have these 3 fans blowing directly down on the ram. First of all these fans are only 40mm. They spin at probably 6000 rpm, and there's 3 of them. Because they're so close together they create phantom sounds due the slight variance in rpm amongst themselves, so its kind of annoying, especially when one decides to go bad. It's tach controllable so you could use your bios to set the rate if supported or just use speedfan. I prefer the antec spotcool because it's alot quiter on its medium and high setting than this corsair fan is on 30% duty cycle. A larger single fan, would, push more air, while being quiter. You don't need the fan to be directly over the source of heat. A large fan blowing in the center would cool the center more than the ends, but the heat from the ends will naturally being drawn to the center where it is cooler, as a result. However, the antec fan cools a rather large area. almost 70% of the ram surface is 'hovered' by that fan. Its your choice. I believe corsair could have made this fan better by putting some rubber dampeners around each fan inside the housing so that it does not vibrate that much, decreasing the audibility of it. And possibly including a better clamping design, the current one outrightly just plain sucks. there's no doubt that the corsair fan will keep your ram cool, but I have a feeling all that vibration could somehow skew the stability of your system since these fans are not only noise in the sense of audibility but also electrical noise closer to your ram.

This is mine experience with this fan: first week a nice product, second week so noisy, third week fans roar for a seconds, now this fans roar for two or three minutes after PC starts and then vibrate all the time.

Does what it is supposed to, only problem I have is after about 3 days one of the fans developed a hum when turned up. Kind of an expensive set to be humming already... Coulda rigged a 120mm in the case blowing at the RAM for less and would have been much quieter. I give it a 4 just because I think for the price it should have been much longer b4 it developed any noise.

This fan works well. The quality is there. Feels sturdy.

One thing that drives me nuts is that one of the fans makes noise. I can't seem to adjust it or get it to stop making the noise. It's not rubbing on anything or installed incorrectly. I've cleaned it and tried to make adjustments. Still makes noise and bothers me.

This could just be exclusive to me, but I couldn't ignore it.

If this isn't a problem, by all means, pick up the fan. Hopefully mine is just a fluke and not a representation of all. I keep my tower up on my desk so I can hear it loudly. If your case is below your desk, this might not even be an issue for you. I only dinged it for 1 star since other than that it's such a nice product.

I did have to use the side-to-side adjustment to keep it from touching my CPU Cooler. Make sure you have room in your case. Check the specs for exact measurements and for goodness sakes MEASURE the space in your case before ordering.

Thanks and have a great day - Brandon

Didn't fit my DDR-4 RAM very well, never held on. The first time I plugged it in the middle fan didn't spin, so I turned up the dial on my fan controller. Eventually the middle fan stopped on full power, so I unplugged it from the fan controller and plugged it directly into a powered fan-from-molex port, and the middle fan still didn't spin. All of this happened within a few weeks. Not very high build quality. Also, the "blue" on the front is like a periwinkle, which is just hideous.

I bought this to replace a similar memory cooler that came with my Corsair RAM I bought a few months ago, due to fan failure.

One thing to be aware of is that this cooler isn't designed for systems with triple-channel RAM, as it's only wide enough to cover 4 memory slots. I kind of awkwardly placed it in the middle, and am just relying on nearby airflow to cool the outer two sticks. Seems to be an acceptable compromise.

This thing is definitely not "quality" by any means -- I couldn't tell if the blue sticker on one side was a temporary measure to protect the surface beneath, or if it was part of the product. After peeling about 1/2" away from the corner, I realized it was supposed to be part of the product, and not removed, which kind of sucks -- now I have a wrinkled corner. Good thing it's superficial. (Which makes me wonder, why even put a sticker on it? Not like it's graphics, just a plain blue sticker covering the bottom.)

Bottom line: Eh, it's probably fine, whatever.

[Edit 2015-04-06] I bought this in June 2014 along with a new CPU cooler, left the side panel off, and turned up the fans to ensure everything stays nice and cool. Only lasted 10 months before the middle fan's bearings were shot, pretty disappointing.

It ran good for about 3 months then two of the fans started making a very loud noise and emitting a burning electronics odor. I finally replaced the fans with standard 40mm fans and it's back to being quiet now; however, that ran me about 23$ at a local store. I would have coordinated with Corsair, but they would have put the same low quality fans back in there, and it would have run another 3-4 months and I would be out the shipping cost. It's great to use as a frame for fans, but plan on changing the 3 x 40mm fans in under a year. The air volume isn't high, but then again, it only uses 40 mm fans.
