On the positive side of things the packaging and feel of this RAM is extremely high quality. The LEDs are also very high quality so aesthetically everything about this RAM is great. Also their support was very responsive.
However after running this RAM for a week in a very stable system with just default BIOS settings I cold booted and the system board would no longer post and kept giving a CC error on the motherboard. So I dug in and started removing things trying to narrow down the issue. Ended up being one of the Dimms had gone bad. Did a RMA and it was fairly quick and painless. So kudos to Corsair for that process.
With system back up and running with the new DIMMs I attempted to start tuning by turning on XMP II so I could get this RAM above 2133mhz. These are 3200mhz after all. System would not boot after making the change and just power cycles over and over again. So I cleared CMOS and manually entered in the timings and voltages again being conservative. Samething power cycle over and over. So I reached out to Corsair and got the following response.

XMP profiles are not guaranteed, you would have to contact your motherboard manufacturer to find the optimal settings for your memory. XMP is overclocking and we do not assist with overclocking. We guarantee that memory will function at 2133 clock speed.
Thank you for choosing Corsair."
I understand the response, but XMP is not uncommon and matter a fact has XMP compatible stamped on the packaging. Corsair even has a XMP profile built into this RAM. Not to mention if I wanted 2133mhz RAM I'd have about MUCH cheaper RAM and just been as happy. Really disappointed by Corsair and this response.
PC specs are as follows:
CPU: Intel 9900k 5.0mhz Unlocked
Motherboard: Asus Maximus Hero XI Wifi
Video Card: Asus 2080 TI 11GB
Case: Thermaltake 900 Tower
PS: Corsair 1200HXi
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15
So as you can see I did not hold back on hardware and my only regret so far are these DIMMs. If you are building a gaming PC and want high end reliable RAM I would not recommend these.
But other than that, performance has been great, and it has been rock solid in terms of its reliability. Definitely a recommended product.
I have one experienced one small glitch with the RGB lighting. One of my modules will occasionally get out of sync with the others and it displays a different pattern or color than the others (it isn't specific to any one particular of them -- I think all four have done it at one time or another). I'm not sure if that's a memory or motherboard thing, and it doesn't really affect me when it happens, but there may be some out there that care, so I thought it best to mention it.
Great RAM if you adjust the xmp profile. It was horrible at first and had over 8000 errors in memtest86 after 5 minutes. Yet it ran fine on stock JEDEC settings. After nearly sending these back I dug deeper and found this is a common issue with this RAM and their XMP profiles. Manually change the XMP profile (from auto to manual, and if your motherboard supports it) then copy the specs of the RAM exactly, including the voltage, except change the trc (in my case with 3200Ghz rated RAM, from 54 to 56) and it should work for you. I'm using a Ryzen 3700 and a Gigabyte Auros Elite x570. The are resources on the web to help with this if you get stuck.
Otherwise super happy with it! The lights are even better in person. It is pricey so unless you're overclocking or getting it for the look, there are more affordable options.
- Still able to use the RGB RAM fan from the previous set, without connecting the LEDs.
- The RAM is running stably @ 3200 MHz on 1.29 V.
- iCUE downloaded to control RAM RGBs. iCUE has a plug-in to control ASUS RGBs.
- Very tall RAM @ 55 mm makes CPU cooler compatibility challenging.
- Had to order Tekiro 7 Piece Mini L-Key Short Hex Metric Set to find hex wrenches that will enable the removal of the light bar. If these get to 52 mm height, will be happy.
- Would have preferred non RGB option.
Removed the RGB & the RAM is now under the 52 mm DIMM clearance required for a new cooler I ordered (ships September/October). Removed the RAM fan. Deleted iCUE: had no issues, but no longer needed.

So I had the delivered opened the packaging which is excellent, removed my old Corsair vengeance Ram, and installed these beauties. Powered on the pc, went straight into the Bios to turn on the D.O.C.P ASUS term for XMP. It changed the base frequency instantly from 3000mhz to its rated 3600 MHz, saved the settings and the computer reset with the rated speed working as advertised.
The whole process was quicker than making a cup of coffee.
I really think Corsair have made an outstanding product with the Dominator platinum RGB, the out of the box light show is Rainbow multi Colour wave, but I’ve not had chance to play around with the Icue software as yet, but I’m not expecting any problems as I already have Corsairs H115i pro AIO and the Icue software runs that perfectly.
If I had to pressed to find something I don’t like about the Ram, that is the very very slight flaw that the Dominator name runs from bottom to top, and would preferred to read it top to bottom.
That’s it really, this Ram is an amazing piece of kit that would look great I’m almost any build.
(Edit - after 2 months of use - original review above)
- The DIMMs arrived are ver 8.31, Nanya B-Die
- Stock: 3600MHz, 1.35v, C18
- Overclock: 3866MHz, 1.37v, C17, dropped tRFC and adjusted other timings.
Could probably increase the frequency if using two DIMMs but happy enough with the 4 DIMMs reaching these speeds. Probably helps to have the optimem feature on the Maximus 12 Extreme.
Since Amazon asked for a "brightness" rating it's not as bright as the RGB Pro RAM but I currently have it at a dull glow at around 10% brightness.
