Overall, I give it a 9.8/10, I just wish it had a USB pass through.
The light on the highest setting does not distract me, although it may for some. Luckily, there are different light strengths to choose from, so you can turn them off, or turn them down if they bother you.
The clicking noise of my keyboard does not bother me at all, it is not that loud.
The response time of the keys are amazing. I love it. I do not have to completely press the key before it responds, so you can minimize the clicking noise with practice. I also like that I do not have to mash down on my keys to get a response from them.
If you are using Win10, be forewarned -- it took a while for my OS to consistently recognize my keyboard even though the software and drivers were installed. What I mean is, sometimes I had access to profiles, sometimes my keyboard was only recognized as a generic device, which did not allow me to use profiles or change the LED settings. Windows 10 is a mess when it comes to recognizing devices consistently. Ugh...
- I love the aluminum chassis
- Aluminum volume wheel is a huge plus, it scrolls super smoothly
- RGB functionality is awesome
- RGB animation customizations are great, I have sunk hours (4+) into playing with animations
- Key switches are nice and durable
- LED is illuminated pretty evenly under the key
- Software could use some UI and UX love, not the easiest to figure out
- Features for creating animation can be more robust, I found myself having to do cheap hacks to achieve certain animation results that should be included
All-in-all, I would highly recommend this keyboard. It is magnificently designed both for function and form.
If you are reading this, then you already know all of the benefits of a mechanical keyboard, so I won't bore you with that.
-Solid keyboard. The aluminum base is beautiful, the USB cable is braided, the volume roller wheel is metal.
-MX red switches are smooth with no tactile bump or click. The only sound I hear is when the key bottoms out (I type very heavy) but without the audible click of, for example, an MX blue switch, the sound is not overwhelming. This is a mechanical keyboard, and if you are reading this you know you will hear something; just know that the MX reds really are smooth and quiet. I may put some clear o-rings on the key caps to lessen the sound of the keys bottoming out, and if I do I will update the review.
-Profile switcher works very well. I have set up a few profiles and assigned them to switch when a specific application is launched, and it functions perfectly.
-If you enable 16.8 million color support there is a noticeable flicker in the lighting. This is a know issue, and from my reading Corsair has no intention of fixing it. Not a deal breaker for me, as I am happy with the basic colors, but for some this may be a deal breaker.
-Running on Windows 10, when my PC goes to sleep or to the lock screen, the keyboard reverts to the default Red/White color scheme. Once you wake the computer up it takes a few seconds for the software to recognize the keyboard and force the correct profile. This is a known issue, and from my reading not much can be done. Not a deal breaker for me, but for some it may be.
-The manual is 150+ pages. Yes, you read that correctly. The software is that powerful and that confusing. I made it to page zzZZZzzzZz :)
-The software is powerful and confusing. Yes, I was able to install it and quickly make a few simple color profiles and assign them to applications. That part is easy. The cool stuff you see online, that is where a Masters in Computer Science and many hours to kill will come in handy. I personally will stop with a few custom color profiles.
-You can download the aforementioned profiles and import them into the software. Some very cool stuff. Is it useful? Not to me, but it is cool.
-The price is a bit steep.
Overall, I highly recommend this keyboard. I use a DASKeyboard with MX blues at the office for typing, but MX Blues are (too me) way to loud for gaming.
