I am not a gamer, I use this keyboard for work. In the default profile I assigned shortcuts and URL's to the G keys, with different LED colors for each so they are easier to remember.
Created different profiles for applications like Photoshop, Outlook, Visual Studio etc.. Different function for each G key while in app. In outlook I was able to use the Text actions for canned email replies (very useful).
It's my first couple of hours with this keyboard and I am already much more productive than I was yesterday.
** Very Important **
Some of the reviews for this keyboard mentioned keys are smaller than usual. They slightly do taper towered the top, however the distance between the center of keys is same as my HP Elite(20mm). The distance between the left CTRL key and Enter key on the numeric side of the keyboard measures exactly 420mm, on both the K95 and the HP Elite. So the size of the keys is a none issue for me, and I don't expect it to be an issue for anyone else. Should not take more than a day to get used to this.
This is the longest review I have ever written as it is a pleasure typing on this keyboard!
Being a seasoned computer programmer myself, I did feel that some of the software interface for configuring the keyboard could have been better. Some things are not intuitive, like copying macros from one key to another and then editing the new copy causes the original copy to also change. I also felt that it wasn't great that you have to delete certain macro lines and add completely new lines to change certain things like mouse movements and key strokes. It would be way easier to just edit a key stroke or mouse coordinates than be forced to start from scratch. It does let you edit time delays though, which was nice.
Some of the lighting features like ripple are totally awesome. It has been a while since I tried to configure lighting but I remember that certain settings were difficult to put together. I also found that I couldn't figure out a way to program my own effects like the ripple effect. I may have to dive in deeper to get that all figured out. But overall I was able to get what I wanted and make different profiles for different scenarios, like 1 for work, 1 for game A, 1 for whatever, etc. It has a lot of versatility in that way.
My only complaint is that I wish the keyboard came exactly the same way but shorter stroke keys that are quiet when typing. It sounds like the keyboard is thundering when I type. The company may offer a similar keyboard with different switches, but it would be inferior in all its other features so I still opt for this kb.
It seems very well built. Like a tank. The G-Key pad seems like a kludge add-on but overall it's a good looking keyboard. Fun to see the swirling colors.
It has some cool and funny stuff with flickering lights and ability to create macros and such. Much more than I needed in a keyboard but I think some might have fun with it.
Fantastic keyboard but I wouldn't have needed to buy this if Corsair had better customer service!
