Zero RPM Fan ModeThe efficient design of the RM650 means minimal excess heat generation, so the fan doesn't even need to spin under low to medium loads. And when you're pushing it hard, the thermal sensor controls the fan speed to ensure that it gets the cooling it needs without any extra noise. |

Update:
After 1 and a half years of having it, the PSU started to fail under heavy load, I contacted Corsair for support and they said that they will replace the item, I sent the defective PSU and I have been waiting for almost a month now and they are not sending me the replacement. I have contacted Costumer Service multiple times and they are not giving me a response not sending the replacement and not doing anything. I would not recommend to buy things from Corsair, not for their quality itself but for their terrible customer service.
The fan wasn't coming on with startup, but that isn't unusual for this PSU since it employs an "on demand" fan, however the PSU felt cool to the touch after each failure so I doubted that it was overheating. Rail voltages were within tolerances so it wasn't being shut down by a watchdog circuit, unless the watchdog was faulty.
I swapped out the PSU with an old BFG 500 watt that I had on the shelves and the tower once again ran stable, not shutting down even after several days. With the culprit almost certainly being the RM650, I called Corsair Tech Support. My wait time wasn't overly long and the tech walked me through the steps that I had already completed before he reached the same conclusion I had, namely that the PSU was faulty. He recommended that I use the Corsair Web site to RMA the unit, which I did. I just shipped the PSU, so I'll update as the process moves along.
I was going to 3 star the PSU for now, since it did fail on me in a very short time, but I don't like paying for shipping a heavy PSU back to the manufacturer when it failed through no fault of my own. It's like paying an extra $21 for a working RM650. So I subtracted a star for making me pay to ship the bad unit.
I'm a normal gamer, playing an hour or two a day on a standard 1080p lcd monitor with 1 video card and no overclocking.
This has everything I could want. It is modular so no unnecessary cables, cables are nice and click in place. It has some weight which makes it look and feel sturdy.
The silent mode is a nice feature, fan does not turn on until needed which is 90% of the time. Supposed to reduce noise but even with my computer on my desk (no case) I can't hear it when it starts. When it does start I'm playing some demanding game like Star Citizen and the noise coming from the cpu and gpu fan is so loud that the 120mm fan from the psu can't get trough anyway. As I said a nice feature but not a game changer.
650W more than enough for what I have.
Nothing bad to say about this, price is good, quality is there, feature are there.
-PS my computer:
AMD FX-8350 cpu stock fan and clock
GTX970 gpu (Gygabyte G1 Gaming edition)
1 hdd
1 ssd
8gb ram 1600MHz in 2 sticks
Modular: 10/10. If you've never had a modular PSU, do yourself a favor and get one next - not only will it make the build easier (less cables all over the place), it'll result in a more aesthetically pleasing and overall cleaner (less cables = less places for dust to accumulate) build.
Power: Yep. 0 problems. Runs everything I'm throwing at it. Granted, I'm not running SLI or anything, but I run a pretty solid rig, with a LOT of items pulling power through USB on my motherboard / the case.
Size: I have this slotted into a Bitfenix Prodigy case, which is meant for micro-ATX builds. Fits perfectly.

1. The intelligent fan software that detects whether or not the system is under load works flawlessly. I never hear my PSU fan period mainly because I have 6 other fans, but after watching it, it rarely ever spins. 5 stars for quietness.
2. The PSU itself is quite solid, I actually dropped it onto a hard wood chair from about 2 feet up (RIP chair) and I didn't notice anything wrong with the PSU and didn't think twice before I installed it.
Overall sound choice for a PSU, make sure you get the wattage you need.
