From the Manufacturer

Solid-state storage that’s fast, compatible, and easy to install

Replacing your mechanical hard drive with fast, reliable solid-state storage is a smart performance upgrade, and Force Series LX SSDs help make it easy. They have a slim 7mm form factor for compatibility with thin and light notebooks as well as standard desktop systems. SATA 3 support provides optimal speed on the latest systems, and backward compatibility with SATA 2 also makes them ideal for upgrading older PCs.

Driver-free installation helps you get up and running faster, too. And, it includes Corsair SSD Toolbox, our exclusive software for managing your Corsair solid-state drive and maintaining its performance.

SATA 3 speed, SATA 2 compatible

The performance of Force Series LX is optimized for the SATA 3 standard. Haven't yet moved to SATA 3? No problem. Like all Corsair components, Force Series LX SSDs are designed to last through several system upgrades. Adding a Force Series LX today means that you'll still get fast and dependable storage performance now, and your SSD will be ready for your next upgrade.

The Force Series LX 7mm height will fit into the latest generation of thin and light notebook PCs
7mm height for broad PC and laptop compatibility

Force Series LX has a height of 7mm, so it will fit into the latest generation of thin and light notebook PCs. Of course, it works in standard desktop PCs, too.

TRIM support

Force Series LX SSDs feature support for the TRIM command under Windows 7 and later. This allows them to store only the data they need and perform memory optimization to ensure the fastest possible write speeds.

High reliability

Because SSDs have no moving parts, they can handle shock, vibration and temperature changes far in excess of traditional hard drives. That's important for desktop PCs, and essential for notebooks and laptops.

Cool and quiet, with low power consumption

Traditional mechanical hard drives spin at thousands of revolutions per minute. This takes power, and generates noise and heat. Since SSDs have no moving parts, there's no noise or vibration, and the lower power consumption helps keep things cool inside your PC.

Corsair SSD Toolbox

Corsair SSD Toolbox is our exclusive software for managing your Corsair solid state drive and maintaining its performance. It's a free download for owners of Corsair SSDs, and it works under Windows XP, Windows 7, and Windows 8.

This is a very affordable, albeit slower, SSD from Corsair. Benchmark tests at bottom of this review. I compared it to my 14 month old Corsair Force GT and a 6 month old Crucial M4 CT064M4SSD2. Quick summary: The Crucial is 2x as fast - and over 2x the price. My Corsair GT was one of the faster drives when I purchased it. Now it's pretty close to the LX. SSD's keep getting faster.

It's a long review. The summary: You get what you pay for. This is a very affordable drive. You save 50% over comparable capacity SSD's drives that perform better. It's still a LOT faster than and HDD. Of course, all SSD's consume less power, run cooler and are more durable than HDD's.

Comparing SSD's is like comparing supercars. Once you're up in that range of speed, "slower" is relative. You're still cruising at 225 MPH. That's what SSD's are. The Supercar of storage. Keeping that analogy going (I watched too much Top Gear yesterday) - let's say the fastest HDD is a new Mustang. 155 mph. Blows away other cars. I'll never have one. That's your fastest HDD. Blows away other HDD's. A McLaren F1 (240 mph) pulls up next to you. Blows your doors off. That's an SSD. Then a Bugatti Veyron Supersport (268 mph) pulls up next to the F1. It's faster than the F1. But not by much. It's still WAY faster than the poor old Mustang.

That's the best analogy I can think of for SSD's. This one is the McLaren F1 of SSD's. Still amazingly fast, but not as fast as some others.

Install: fast and east. My desktop drive bays support SSD's and plug and play, so I did not need any mounting hardware or cables. If you're installing this in a desktop, you'll probably need the mounting bracket and cables (power and data.) From unboxing to writing data, 5 minutes.

Corsair's Force LX Series solid state drive marries pretty good performance with a great price. Most 256 gigabyte solid state drives cost quite a bit more. But Corsair gave up a little performance -- making this drive a little slower than the best performers -- in order to keep the price down. I don't think I'll ever notice the difference in performance, but the difference in price is hard not to notice.

When you open the package, it's hard to imagine that this drive could hold 256 gigabytes. It is the same size as a laptop disk drive: 2.5 inches wide. It has a SATA port that fits right into a laptop or desktop. Its weight is so minimal that it does not need to be screwed in, so it has no screw holes and can simply rest in place. It has no mechanical parts, just some chips on a board, with most of the case being plastic but the bottom of the case being aluminum, I imagine to be a heatsink for the chips.

The computer sees this drive as being no different from a disk drive, so the operating system and other programs work just fine with it. But the speed with which the computer can read and write is remarkably faster. Blazing fast, little heat and no noise. Lots to like about that.

The price of this solid state drive is still much higher than the price of a hard disk drive. Still, with pricing like this, many more people will be turning to solid state drives for the speed and the cool, noiseless, reliable operation. I know I will.

I swapped out my 5 year-old hard drive with this Corsair Force LX SSD 512GB. I needed the Rosewill 2.5 inch SSD/HDD Mounting Kit so that it would fit in the bay of my old hard drive. The install was easy and when I turned my PC back on with my Windows 7 CD in the DVD player it booted from the CD and did the Windows install. This Corsair SSD is much faster than my old hard drive and now just seconds go by after turning on the PC before I'm on the internet. I couldn't be more pleased with the easy install and the better performance I'm now experiencing. I backed up my old hard drive to a stand alone Hard Drive before I started and have my old files (mostly family pictures) safe should I ever need them.

So far so good. Didn't get the BLAZING SPEED everyone keeps talking about - but it is faster.

Forgot this part - DOES NOT COME WITH A SATA CABLE!!! Not sure why I just assumed it would, but I did. So I had to go back to ole Amazon and order one of those. Don't be dumb like me and have to wait a few more days to get your system backup and running.

This is a great drive. I've owned a few SSDs throughout time and obvioulsy numerous HDDs. I also won't be posting specs, as you can read many a technical review site if you're truly interested in such numbers. I will state it, from my own minimal testing, it does perform as it should.

Packaging was minmal - the box just has a plastic insert that houses the SSD so it's protect somewhat in shipping. I think it had a warranty paper in it, but nothing much outside of that. So if you need a bracket, or cable, or such, you'll need to get it somewhere else. I will suggest you get Corsair's program to download from their website. It should make sure your drivers for this SSD are up to date (they were as of this writing but the drive also just came out too). It also has a feature to automatically TRIM the drive, which is a technique utilized in newer OS's to make sure you get as much life out of the drive as possible. The software lets you set how much drive space you want to leave so the drive can utilize it if needed with wear-leveling, garbage collection, etc.

So, this is your run of the mill SSD. It's small, makes no noise, and runs pretty cool. It was recognized immediately in my Asus' board bios. Windows detected it quickly with no problems and I've been running it a couple weeks. Please search for many guides on how to make sure your bios and windows recognize and utilize an SSD correctly so you can get all speed and life out of it you want. Also, get the above mentioned software to help with this.

Programs open wicked fast. It boots up in seconds. It doesn't lag or hang with anything, as some SSDs may. It notice no speed difference in this between older, but top of the line at the time, drives. I don't know what else to say about this drive.
