After a doctor visit a couple days ago, I discovered that my 10-month-old daughter is now 27" long. That means she is already about to outgrow her Graco infant car seat! It was time to start looking at convertible seats for her to upgrade to. After reading several reviews on Amazon, I decided to take a trip to the local Kmart to get a feel for some of the things that reviewers were talking about here. I am glad I did! This model was one that I had already saved on my wishlist for later consideration, and it ended up being on sale at Kmart for $39! I quickly grabbed the last two that they had on the shelf (one for me and one for my wife), and today was the first day using it. So far, I am fairly happy with it, and I will lay out pros and cons later. In brief, however, I would say that this is a good basic car seat for the budget-conscious parent. If I were going to spend the $60 they are asking for here on Amazon, I might choose a different model, but at Kmart's price it was a no-brainer. A few cons make it a 4-star item, and I will come back and edit my review if I find any other problems later on.

PROS
Light weight. I don't know if that is a huge deal since we are leaving them permanently mounted in our cars, but it is very light weight.

Easy install. The directions were very easy to follow, and the manual is laid out in a good logical order. I was able to make all of the fit adjustments and mount the seats in both cars within about an hour.

Easy child loading. This seat has a similar concept to the Graco infant seat that we started with. You put the child's arms through the two shoulder straps, then buckle the two metal clips into the crotch strap, then clip the chest clip closed, and finally pull the harness adjuster strap to cinch everything down.

We've had this seat for six months and it has become my nemesis. For starters, it's huge. We have a 2007 Prius hatchback and it's impossible to install in the middle backseat. The cup holders extend so far into both of the other seats that no one else could sit comfortably in the back. When installed behind the driver's seat, not only can no one sit in the middle backseat, but the passenger's side back seat will not fold down when we need the extra storage space in back (again, because the cup holders extend too far into the middle (22.5" in width to be exact). So, basically, if you drive a sedan, your backseat is worthless aside from hauling your child and one additional passenger. For many, this may not be an issue, but the really frustrating part is installing it. It's damn near impossible. There's no leverage for the strap that tightens the seat to the car via clips. The button to release the strap takes pliers to push down it's so tight. I weigh 190 lbs and have to use my full body weight to push down on the seat while simultaneously trying to pull on the aforementioned no-leverage, stuck-button installation strap. I'm pretty mechanically inclined and I am a cussing, frustrated mess every time I remove this seat to clean under it (another con--everything your child eats will end up in the hole underneath the seat) and have to re-install it. If you travel, forget taking it on a plane to your destination--way too big to haul through an airport. You have to yank on the strap to tighten the shoulder straps as though you were tying a boat to your roof. I guess it would keep my daughter safe in an accident, but that's about all I can say for this product. I seriously want to throw it in a lake. Buy something else.

Update: To their credit, Cosco approved a refund for this product even after I had used it for 6 months. They handled my complaint literally in minutes of emailing them and sent a pre-paid return label to ship it back. Yay for Cosco, Boo for this car seat.

I use this cosco carseat as an extra in our vehicles. It's fairly easy to move from vehicle to vehicle, its cheap but it feels sturdy, and I really like the built in cupholders. I have a more expensive carseat in our main vehicle but wanted an extra and this works perfectly.

It's pretty light and easy to work with. I normally use a chicco next fit so I got this specifically for travel. We took a flight from SF to LA and and it did the job. The plane was small and the car seat took up room on my seat at well, so we had the armrest up. Other problem was that the seatbelt on the plane stuck up a little high and she had to sit on a hard lump. She was mad at first but then she got over it quickly. Overall it's okay. For the price I can't really complain.

We've had this seat for over 2 years now and it's been through two kids. It's not bad for the price, that's for sure, but it's my least favorite convertible we've used. But a few things that annoy me about it. When they are as tight as they are supposed to be, the straps cut into my kid's neck and leave red marks. I'm sure it's not comfortable for her. Of all of the seats we have used (7 between infant seats and convertible in our cars and grandparents') the straps on this one are the most prone to twisting in unfavorable ways, especially in the buckles. The strap fabric is just thinner than our other seats. Next small complaint: this seat is mostly just hard plastic with a fabric cover -- not much padding or comfort for the kid. Also, I wish the latch system had an easy release button. Of all of these, the complaint that is probably the most annoying because it would've been easy/cheap to fix, is that the cup holders are too small to hold any of my children's cup. I could see them fitting a bottle, but none of their sippy cups or straw cups fit. For those who want a reference, we've found that a tennis ball fits in them but gets stuck. So if the cupholder size matters to you, if your cups' diameter is tennis ball size or smaller, you'll be fine.

Again, none of these are huge deals and for the price, this seat is fine. But if you want a GREAT seat, this isn't it. I won't buy it again.
