I received this product at discount for my honest testing and review. I am under no obligation to provide a positive review and receive no incentives or rewards for doing so. My aim is to highlight features and drawbacks that I would want to know about as a buyer, not hype the product for the manufacturer. My remarks are sincere and my own. While it is true that many items are received at discounted rates or complimentary, my reviews are completely honest and are my personal experiences with the product. Again, it is just my opinion, your own opinion might vary. I received no monetary compensation and I am not required to give a good review.
The short stories make it so you can pick up it read for awhile and finish a story feeling like you came to an ending without feeling like you are setting something down unfinished. Then when you are ready you pick it up again for another story.
Full Disclosure: I received this item free or at a discount in exchange for an honest and truthful review. I believe in the review process and will always give honest and truthful reviews as I rely on reviews of others to be honest and truthful when I am considering a purchase.
Let me just say upfront that I don't read much, but I do really enjoy Sci-Fi. So, with that said, the writing from most of the authors in this collection seems high functioning. They used vocabulary and literary devices which kept me interested. Rather than just conveying an idea or a scene, I often found myself astounded at the level of detail and finesse involved.
They are short stories, so in many cases I felt like I was thrown into the middle of a story (because that is the case), but for the most part, it didn't take more than a page or two to feel caught up, or at least like I had a handle on the premise of the story.
Many different levels of science fiction are represented in this one book. Futuristic space rescue, apocalyptic last hope teen drama, ground pounder laser era warfare, steam punk western set under triple suns, and there was even a recent history spy era with orbital space stations one. Very wide variety of content.
Of course there are no pictures other than the front cover, but the stories stand by themselves well enough to not need them.
I'm still much more the video game, make my own story, sort of guy, but having a book or two like this on my phone fills in the time when I don't have much to do and don't have internet access...
