The banter in this book will delight
I loved The Cost of Hope about Soleil’s story and was looking toward hearing about Virginia’s story and this book didn’t disappoint!
Virginia, after her friend was kidnapped and sold to slavery, has been devoted to the abolitionist cause. She doesn’t have time nor wish for marriage. Who needs a husband after all? That is, until she meets Charles again, and he offers her a deal to appealing to reject. A marriage of convenience and he can help her be a conductor and help free slaves that have been abused for long.
She agrees thinking about a future separation, but as she gets to know her husband, marriage doesn’t seem as bad as before...
Charles is determined to win her heart. Will he achieve his deepest desire? Or will he have to let her go so she can have her freedom again?
This was a wonderful story and it had everything I like: relatable characters, sweet romance, intrigue, adventure and even humor!
I loved Virginia’s spunk and witt, and her boldness and selfless sacrifice toward the most needed. Charles was a true hero, kind, compassionate, patient and understanding. He never pressed Virginia, and it was with small details that he will win her over.
I truly enjoyed this book and definitely recommend it to Historical Romance lovers! Worth the read!
Looking forward to reading the next book in the series!!
I was gifted with a copy from the author and this is my honest and unbiased review
