The Cost of Deceit and Delay: Obama & Reid's Scheme to Kill Yucca Mountain Wastes $Billions Paperback – September 22, 2012
About the Author
Bob Ferguson has more than 50 years of experience in the field of nuclear energy, in both government and industry. He is a former Deputy Assistant Secretary for Nuclear Programs in the U.S. Department of Energy, and a former managing director of the Washington Public Power Supply System. He has spent much of his career working to resolve the issues of nuclear waste disposal and commercial spent nuclear fuel management in support of a nuclear energy renaissance.

This book provides the story of how Bob Ferguson, with willing participants, challenged the actions of Obama, Reid and Chu in Federal Court and won a decision saying that the actions of the powerful three contradicted express law on the books. Because the system developed numerous control/approval organizations, the use of Yucca Mountain has not yet taken place.
Bob then provides a most readable account of how he reached his nuclear energy vantage point. Starting with the operation of a plutonium-producing reactor he moved on to monitoring and strengthening reactor safety at dozens of nuclear reactors across the country. He then had a stint in Washington, DC in the office of Dr. Schlesinger, the first head of the newly formed Department of Energy. From there he to Hanford, WA where he worked on nuclear waste safety and where he managed the construction of the FFTF, a large, complex liquid-metal reactor. Later, he managed a project of five power-reactors that was reduced when the utility company recognized its unrealistic prediction of near-term power demands. Bob then built the one surviving reactor that operates to this day.
It is evident that Bob Ferguson spent his nuclear career in the trenches and his voice should be heard. It should also be noted that he participated in a meeting at the White House in 1982 where the problem of spent nuclear fuel was recognized as a national priority.
