Limited 180gm audiophile vinyl LP with insert and PVC protection sleeve. The Cotton Club is a 1984 drama, centered around the famous Harlem Jazz club of the 1930's. The story follows the people that visited the club, those that ran it, and is peppered with the Jazz music that made it so famous. Combining song and dance performances with drama (both on and off screen), Francis Ford Coppola's The Cotton Club looks back to the 1920s peak of the legendary Harlem nightclub where only blacks performed and only whites could sit in the audience. Coppola creates a panorama of love, crime and entertainment centered on the club. The cast exists, among others, out of Richard Gere, Gregory Hines, Diane Lane and Lonette McKee. John Barry's efforts at supervising, scoring and recreating the energetic jive and wail of the era very nearly carry the day. His adaptations of standards by Ellington and Cab Calloway are reverent yet energetic, infused by original music that weaved it into an accessible and rewarding tapestry of time, place and art.

I bought (another) copy of this soundtrack for one song: Ill Wind, sung by Lonette McKee. A good song made great by this artist. I've listened to this song sung by many of the historically great singers; they should all bow down and pay homage to Ms McKee. Her version is on every one of my top songs lists, and everyone I've played it for agrees it just sends chills down your spine it's so good. The movie is once again available so listen to it for yourself and buy a copy before it once again is "unavailable."

I REALLY ENJOY THE MOVIE AND SOUNTRACKS TO COTTON CLUB CAN'T HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT ENOUGH I HOPE THEY REMAKE THE MOVIE WITH MORE ON THE SINGING AND DANCING AGAIN. This has always been one of my absolute favorite soundtracks. I bought the album many moons ago when the movie came out, then managed years later to find it on cassette. I have been looking for it on CD for a couple of years now, so I was delighted to finally get my hands on it. The CD plays perfectly, but I will burn a copy or two just in case it ever goes bad on me as it will only become harder and harder to find.

This music is just incomparable in its production and authenticity. If you've never heard it, you are missing a truly special treat. If you have heard it, you know what I'm talking about.

Love this movie! No idea how many times I've watched it, but it'll stay in my collection forever. I'm a huge Gregory Hines fan and he was excellent in this film, both acting and dancing. It was a great representation of Harlem in the Roaring 20's and the all-star cast all gave great performances. I also bought the soundtrack CD because the music is timeless.

Definitely a keeper.

I love the music but I bought the CD for Lonette McKee's version of Ill Wind.It is the best version to me. I've heard a number of renditions and they are all very good, it is a great song period. All of the music from the movie is great. I am however deisappointed that some songs didn't make it on to the CD.
