I planted cotton in my Long Island,NY backyard and it grew great. I planted the seeds around Memorial day 2015 and the plants had big white cotton balls by Oct. 1st. I planted them in pots with potting soil that had fertilizer pre mixed into it ( Scotts soil ) . But some of the seeds didn't germinate .
Next year I'm planting cotton in the ground. Should do better. They use to grow cotton in Southern New Jersey during colonial times and cotton did well there. Cotton production moved South because it was more profitable to grow it in the deep South. But Cotton can be grown in the north, especially near the coast where the growing season is longer.

I bought these seeds less then 5 days ago. I have an indoor Garden and I am trying all kinds of things. Decided this would be fun..not only did these arrive early but they were packaged very nicely. The next day I plated them and in 3 day's I have a sprout. I am amazed. They grow fast and I know it's going to be fun to spin them into clothing. :) I am going to buy more for this summer for sure.

I got these seeds as a little gag gift for my husband, and thought that they wouldn't grow at all. But I'm happy to report that out of the 20 seeds that we bought, we have 12 seedlings growing and 2 of them (after only a few weeks) are more than three inches tall. I was doubtful that getting seeds in the mail would be a good idea, but the plants and their growth proves otherwise! We have so many plants now that we're thinking of giving some of the cotton to family and friends. Woohoo! Thanks a lot for a great gift!

Next time, I'm gonna go local for my cotton seeds.

I planted 20 seeds and I got 7 plants. I don't know what happened to the other 13 seeds. And we have successfully grown an avocado tree, bell pepper plants, tomato plants, and quite a few others. So I don't think it was my techniqe.

Hey, the 7 that are growing are flourishing really well though :/

I am from the deep south of Louisiana; however, have never picked cotton. My Arkansas husband, said he had one summer as a child. We have a week-end cabin on a lake in Arkansas that we enjoy with our four grandchildren from Alabama and Texas. Wanting the littleones to have an experience of a by-gone day, purchased three bags of cotton seed and planted them under the split-rail fencing surrounding the hill side cabin.. The seeds have sprouted already even in a less than raining summer in Arkansas.

Hopefully plants will continue to grow and be ready for dem dere cotton pick'en grandkids, next summer.

Almost all of the seeds didn't even sprout. And the few that did were barely alive and in poor condition. You may think it was a fault on my part but I live in the natural climate where they grow, and tendered and cared for them in the exact way they need.

I purchased these after mom came to visit me while I was on business in TX. She use to pick cotton as a young girl, I've heard many stories about these fields and she wanted to plant some to educate the grandkids. We went to a few stores trying to locate seeds during her visit w/o success, found these of course on Amazon and purchased, so she's happy, I'm happy!
