About the Author

Helen M Holdun is a native New Yorker, mother of three amazing sons. She's lived in California for five years, most of the time in the 'paradise' known as Palm Springs, part of the time in the gorgeous area of San Fransisco. She hopes to one day soon give life on the East Coast (where she was headed before fate stepped in with other plans) a try, but believes the heart of the person she is now will always lead her back to the Coachella Valley, the place where she truly found her blissful home. "It Could Be Magic..." is Helen's first published book which she states “began as a thought, evolved to a dream and has become a reality”. However, during the past five years she’s been a successful freelance writer, and has conducted numerous interviews and written various event reviews all while “sharing life one word at a time”. She's currently working on writing and editing three more books, a documentary with her youngest son about HIV/AIDS education for teenagers, launching a web-site to promote independent artists of every genre and pursuing a long sought after PhD in the field of Psychology. Everyday this self professed, ever hopeful romantic who believes in a forever love, that blossoms from friendship and can't get enough of "mushy" feel good stuff, looks forward to each wonderful second her crazy, busy crazy life has to offer!

This book is not just about Barry Manilow's music. It's the story of one woman's path of self-discovery and motivation to make positive changes in herself and her life. The author describes the events in her life that resulted in anxieties, phobias, and lack of self-esteem and how Barry Manilow's music was the trigger at every little step, as well as big turning point, to give her the strength to follow her path of positive change. Oh, and did I mention that she overcame debilitating panic attacks without medication, but because of using Barry's music as a positive trigger? Pretty amazing! This is one strong woman!

I found this story to be an inspirational and spiritual one that would interest therapists, life coaches, Barry Manilow fans, and anyone interested in a really good story of self-discovery and change. While I always liked Barry's music, I'm now motivated to revisit the familiar songs, and discover some of the unfamiliar tunes described in the book.

This book could have been called "Eat, Pray, Move". It tells the story of one woman's journey from childhood to single mom-hood. It's a combination biography/spiritual awakening sort of book, with the music of Barry Manilow standing in for the usual deity. It's not as self-absorbed as I expected, nor does it cover any new ground. A bit overpriced for the length.

Helen Holdun's story is heartwarming, enthusiastic, and full of inspiration to any individual who believes they can't accomplish all they want in life and considers themselves trapped in a situation where there's no way out. Read this book and you will have a very different outlook. Through Barry Manilow's music, she found a way to challenge life in ways she thought weren't possible. My own experience is very similar. In reading this wonderful novel, together with the music of Manilow, it's given me encouragement to fulfill a dream that before I didn't think would ever exist. Thank you, Helen, for sharing your story. You've provided me with the motivation I needed.
