Writing was the only thing that got me through school, the essay question being my only chance at a passing grade. Born on a mountaintop in the northern US, educated at the one of the best in the south, corporately-careered in the Rockies, after a brief stint with internet celebrity (back before it was even called ‘blogging’) my life truly started when true love found me through my blog, and I ditched it all in the US to become a husband, father and certified-Australian.

I live the quiet life in Perth, looking after my family and raising amazing humans with the best co-pilot-in-life anyone could ask for.

Words, writing, language, they are what connect us all, no matter our occupation, station or interests. Everyone has a story to tell, some even have several, and a truly good story is something that makes an impact into your day, here and there, while you’re just living your life.

I’m out to tell the story that you’ll think about, something that lasts. Something you keep.

Post apocalyptic coming of age story

The Council feels like a multi-part coming of age story told from two separate but converging viewpoints. It starts out with action and stays at a good pace all throughout the book. The two main protagonists had gifts and were easy to root for, to be sure, but they didn’t come across as Gary Stu types, as there were definite points in the story where they had internal issues to work out. Those points became some of my favorites, as they often took an interesting yet common sensical perspective on societal issues.

Lee clearly has a knack for writing conflict scenes. Those were written with enough detail to know what’s going on, without overly slowing down the flow of the story.

I particularly liked the world building aspect that Lee brought. The material was a bit out of my norms, but easy enough to follow. It feels like there is a history that being uncovered throughout the book and is set up for more to come. There are new technologies that are introduced, but they’re brought up in a way that is reminiscent of the Star Trek tricorders. It’s there, it works, and it’s believable.

In the end, I really enjoyed the book and am looking forward to the next one!
