In 1997, Elder M. Russell Ballard wrote, Church and family councils are one of the best resources in winning the battle for the souls of our Father's children. Fifteen years later, that is still true, and with the growth of the Church, the mounting challenges we face in the world, and the release of the new Church Handbook comes the revised edition of Counseling with Our Councils. Elder Ballard helps us understand the power of the inspired council system and how it can help us minister more effectively to Church members as well as address the problems confronting individuals, families, and communities. He teaches us how to plan and conduct a truly effective council meeting, what individual council members can bring to their assignment, and how to make better use of the combined inspiration, wisdom, and experience of council members. It's a book that every priesthood leader, auxiliary leader, and parent will benefit from.

A must-read for anyone in a leadership position in the LDS Church, which is all of us, eventually. It made me think about how I am working with people in my own calling, which is not in a presidency or the like. Elder Ballard emphasizes to the point of over-repetition the need to include and pay attention to women in Church councils, but if the gentleman doth protest too much, then there are myriad examples in Church culture and history that justify the emphasis and repeated reminders.

Inspired and well written. Truly a book for our day. Coming together to Council brings understanding and unity, an essential element today. The 'how to' and the 'what to watch for' is clearly explained. From the grassroots family unit to the tops of governments, the message is one of importance we should all heed.

This is an exceptional book. Conceptually sound, doctrinally consistent, pragmatic. It supports the move towards a “Come, Follow Me” teaching and leading approach.

Excellent for leadership training. I read it then re-read it I liked it so much. I bought a copy for a young friend who will soon be leading a branch in the mission field. The counsel on agendas is outstanding. It covers all the important topics a leader must consider when working with counselors and councils. Very important book.

it is mostly the original book which is also excellent. The updates are good, but if you already have the original book I am not sure this revised edition is needed.
