This was short and sweet, very fitting to the holiday season. When Katy announced that she is going to stop writing the Blueberry Lane Series, I was saddened. I understood why she did it, and couldn't be more respectful of her wishes, this isn't something she does as a hobby, it's her job. So when I heard she is STILL going to release this novella to at least give as a sort of closure for Elizabeth and Jane Story I was excited. I wanted to get to know these two, as both were mentioned enough in the previous installments and yet I felt I don't know anything important about them.
This is a short novella, so we get only a promise of a HEA and yet for me it was enough as both couples have known each other in the past. Jane was "the one that got away" from Amity Atwell. They met in college but though they enjoyed each other's company, they didn't move to the next level since Amity was still dealing with a horrible breakup. When the school year was over it turned out to be their last together and so what started as a sweet friendship ended abruptly.
With Elizabeth and Merit Atwell (Amitay's older brother) it started on a very positive note and yet the whole beautiful memory of their time together was destroyed in a way that left Elizabeth heart broken (and Merit a bit disappointed). I won't say more, just that once the truth about the past is put on the table it makes a future truly possible for the two of them.
But how do they all come to be at the same time and place? The two couple of siblings somehow booked the same suite for a weekend of skiing! Elizabeth and Merit start on the left foot, but as Jane and Amity realize how much they want to re-connect they decide to keep the suite for the four of them. In one weekend they both find the possibility of a HEA!
I really enjoyed this one, it was an easy fun read. I also loved that we got to know Elizabeth on the business side or rather understand exactly why she was behaving like she did the past few years after finishing her degree. Story Imports is her passion and she was willing to do everything and anything to bring it to the place she wanted it to be. But in the end, her final actions speak of her reasoning, ones that neither of her siblings knew before.

Countdown to Midnight is a novella in The Story Sisters (The Blueberry Lane series) but it can be read as a standalone. As with the previous books in the series, I’ve fallen in love with these characters. Elizabeth and Jane Story were raised by uncaring parents but always found love and support among their sisters. I was thrilled to hear these ladies were getting a chance to find their HEA. To celebrate New Years Eve the sisters take a trip to their favorite ski resort, only to find out that their cabin was double booked. Their cabin is given to the handsome Atwell brothers, Merit and Amity, whom the sisters know well. Merit and Amity are members of a large family, but have drifted apart while pursuing their careers. This trip was meant to rekindle the brother’s friendship, but their plans change the moment they meet Elizabeth and Jane. As sparks fly will painful memories ruin their chances for love? You’ll have to read Countdown to Midnight to find out.
I love Katy Regnery’s writing and Countdown to Midnight is everything I hoped it would be. The characters are relatable as they share their hopes, fears and dreams. The love and romance is passionate and sexy. Countdown to Midnight is a fast read and the perfect way to add a quick romance into your day.
Countdown to Midnight is a novella and sadly it does not come close to quenching my thirst for this author and her gorgeous Blueberry Lane stories. Honestly, I have missed this series so much since it ended. I am so excited to learn the author is giving us Countdown to Midnight just in time for the holidays. This story is short and sweet but here is the bonus: it covered not one but two Story sisters and their love stories with the Atwell brothers which was adorable and romantic.
Amity and Jane have known each other since Harvard. Their friendship/study partnership was short lived as Amity left the country attempting to find himself after a rather humiliating break up. Merit and Elizabeth were long lost friends, so Merit had a hard time remembering or recognizing Elizabeth. Unfortunately, Elizabeth remembers Merit well and not so fondly. Both of these Story sisters had feelings for the Atwell brothers but timing hadn’t been in their favor.
Present day, Jane and Elizabeth went on a vacation at Saranac Lake and fate has it that the Atwell brothers were thinking the same. Can they rekindle the romance and pick up where they left off long ago? Should not be hard, right? Not so fast … While Jane is giving Amity doe eyes, Elizabeth hates Merit’s guts. This vacation is about to get messy and complicated especially because they all have to share the same cabins for the weekend.
I adore all the characters. This second chance love story is incredibly sweet, charming, and romantic. The writing is gorgeous as always. Thank you for this beautiful gift … so short but lovely all the same. I did not want it to end.
