I knew FM-2030 slightly, through correspondence, telephone calls and even a personal meeting at a conference back in 1995. I have also read several of the books and articles he published before his cryonic suspension in 2000, so I had a good idea of FM's world view and how strange he sounded at times.

He outdoes himself in this book. I have to admire FM's passion and cheerleading for the conquest of aging and death, but he proposes some radical changes to the human body and mind which a lot of people who haven't followed transhumanist discussions or read a lot of science fiction over the years will probably find off-putting. For example, he advocates removing entire organ systems in the human body which we arguably don't need, shrinking the brain down to a tiny capsule which could reside in the head, yet have the ability to dig itself out of the skull and tunnel through debris to get to the surface and fly to safety after a misadventure kills the body - things like that.

Some of FM's other ideas edge right up to current feasibility, especially his emphasis on telemedicine to alert both you and emergency health care providers that you face a health crisis like cardiac arrest. Some smart phone apps in 2011 now have telemedical functions, though we seem quite a ways off from wearing "Immortality Modules," futuristic unitards which protect us from injury, alert rescue workers when we fall into danger and even prep our bodies for cryonic suspension when necessary.

FM's book also has a paleofuture flavor to it.

I saw a conference by Dr. Grey at Ted; I was intrigued and thought of buying one of his books. I searched the name and this is the book I got. There appeared something saying FM-2030 next to the authors name, I thought it was just a code.

Turns out that FM-2030 was (he's dead already) some Iranian person who pioneered this topic of interest and is who once wrote this book. This person was so... how to put it? Particular, that he changed his name from Ahmed Hassan (or something like that) to FM-2030. Dr. Grey writes only the foreword. So, this book is like a re-print of the old book you didn't want to buy by the guy with the funny (not crackpot) name.

I would ask for my money back if my time was not worth a lot more than asking for it. But I'm giving it one star because I feel taken advantage of.
