Putting that slight bias aside, A Couple Cooks has been my go-to food blog when I'm craving a certain type of food and need a little extra inspiration. I was so happy to hear that they were publishing a cookbook to add some color to my kitchen and to also have a hard copy for myself to make notes and other small writings during my process.
Reasons to love this cookbook:
- It's visually stunning. The photos, the watercolor images, the overall theme
- The recipes don't call for a ton of ingredients. I like to keep my food simple (and follow recipes that allow me to add my own twist/spin/replacements) and this book does just that.
- Vegetarian / vegan. Some of the recipes call for animal products, but it's quite easy to replace them for the same recipe.
- All courses are covered: breakfast, snacks/apps, salads, main entrees, desserts, drinks...it's all in there for a full meal experience!
Also, this book is BEAUTIFUL and will be doubling as a decoration on my kitchen counter for months to come.
The main dishes being separated by the amount of time it takes to prepare them is genius. I often find with other recipes that I have no idea how long it takes, and if I’m hungry before I start, I’m ravenous by the time the food is ready. Now I can flip to a scrumptious quick fix after work, not compromising good quality for time, or a recipe for a special occasion that I want to put more time and effort into (I can’t wait to make the veggie lasagna again!). I am excited to get brave and make more recipes from Pretty Simple Cooking.
Also, the irresistible almond dip is a staple at any social gathering I go to now. My friends and I can’t get enough!
A Couple Cooks message of keeping things fresh and simple, not overthinking ingredients or cooking, is challenging the way I think about cooking.
Since the book has arrived, I've already made two batches of the Cherry Almond Breakfast Cereal (I've been eating it every morning) and the Whole Wheat Weekend Waffles. I also have an entire meal (start to finish) planned from the book for this weekend. I look forward to cooking my way through this lovely and delicious cookbook.
Well done Sonja and Alex!
I can't wait to cook my way through the book, but I already recommend the kale caesar salad and the burrito bowls with lime crema sauce. Congrats Sonja and Alex!!!
