As psychologists specializing in treating sex addiction, our jobs require us to work closely with people whose lives have fallen apart. Not all couples choose to rebuild, and that is always a very personal decision. This book is for those who do, and then often find themselves wondering, "How can we have a healthy sex life after sex addiction?" We have answered this question by developing Sexual Reintegration Therapy(SRT). If you have a vision for a better relationship, SRT gives you the plan. For betrayed wives, absolutely BEFORE reading this workbook BE SURE to FIRST read **"Treating Trauma from Sexual Betrayal" (2017 published) by Dr. Kevin Skinner, and **"Intimate Deception" (2018) by Dr. Sheri Keffer, "Aftermath of Betrayal" (2017) by Michelle Mays (and also check out her website and her blog Partner Hope for more excellent info), **"Hold Me Tight" by Dr. Sue Johnson. These **books provide a whole lot of great scientific research and not just an author's opinion. And, also, before reading "Couple's Guide to Intimacy" it would serve the betrayed wife's best interests to also read "The Complex PTSD Workbook" (2016) by Dr. Arielle Schwartz, and "Intimate Treason" by Cara Tripodi and Claudia Black. Without FIRST reading and understanding what the wife's brain, mind, heart, and body is healing from, which the above resources do a superb job, reading "Couple's Guide to Intimacy" will very most likely further moderately to severely traumatize the betrayed wife, who already has beyond her capacity of trauma, pain, grief, and loss to process/resolve/heal/recover from. I would NOT recommend this workbook to be done until at least well-into the 3rd year of the sex addict husband having had zero slips or relapses and his hang been heavily invested into a recovery program based on first Dr. Milton Magness "Thirty Days to Hope & Freedom", which includes beginning a rigorous SA 12 Step written work-group-sponsor, and then (and ONLY then) onto PASAT which Alexandra Katehakis explains in "SA as Affect Regulation."

I'm only on page 17 and I've already been offended multiple times. I am a big fan of Dr. Rob Weiss, his prodependence model, and I bought this book based on his endorsement. This book is supposed to help heal couples but insists on calling the betrayed partner a co-addict and basically says that until you, as the betrayed, can accept that you CHOSE this for yourself you will not heal. What a degrading, insulting thing to say to both partners. To tell me I'm so messed up that I brought this upon myself. That I picked my partner because he is a garbage person and if I were healthier I wouldn't have settled for someone so broken. Drs. Bercaw, you should be ashamed that you are still stuck in the dated, backwards codependency model. What a waste of money.

I found that reading this book together as a couple strengthened our communication and helped us understand each others viewpoint of intimacy. The PIE activities really help us focus on each other and gave us a different and more intimate approach to sex. Couples of any background would find this helpful and enlightening.
