HERE ONLY VOLUME ONE. -- "Garnier regards kinematics as a branch of rational mechanics, of interest for its own sake and for its applications to differential geometry. Throughout the whole treatise little attention is paid to applications to engineering." The method of "repère mobile" was used. [Willmore, 1956] Garnier was a mathematician and professor of rational mechanics in Poitiers, Paris, at the École Polytechnique from 1943. His three volumes on kinematics appeared first in 1940, 1941, 1951.
