"In my many years designing online courses, I have never encountered anything as intuitive and easy to follow as the Course Design Formula. This will become my go-to formula to design courses from now on."
Mauricio Cadavid, Ed.D.
"If you are looking for an outstanding textbook for a class that teaches how to design and deliver online learning, this book is for you and your students. It presents a learning design process that is informed by a deep understanding of the research, presented in a clear and logical way. It can serve as a springboard to help readers understand highly practical and relevant research findings about learning, media, and process. From there, readers can easily launch either into a deeper investigation of salient lines of research or move right into the production of online learning resources--from individual learning objects to full-length courses."
Brian Newberry, Ph.D., instructional designer, Jackson College
"This is a book that can be used in the corporate space, higher education, or by individuals who desire to share their own expertise online for fun or for profit. Each chapter has clearly defined objectives, real-life examples that readers can relate to, and most importantly, a wealth of resources to help the new or seasoned designer assess, design, and review their course idea and learning outcomes. This is by far, one of the best books I have read on course development in years."
Mary Nunaley, Ms.ED., ATD Master Instructional Designer™, Founder of the Lavender Dragon Team, LLC
"In the information age, creating cognitively and socially engaging educational content continues to become increasingly important. Rebecca Frost Cuevas synthesizes principles of learning theory, instructional technology, visual design, and usability to create a clear approach to developing your online course. Each of these topics are addressed in other publications, but I have not seen them integrated into an action plan for online teaching and learning as effectively as Ms. Cuevas has done in this book. Her formula is brilliant. This is a must-read for anyone who wishes to teach online."
Suzanne Ama, M.S., Education, professor of digital media arts

The author clearly defines her process, and throughout the book, she also provides plenty of reference points and specific actions the learner can take to build a solid online course. The author also blends theory with practice in a painless way making learning about Bloom's Taxonomy and Gagne seem like child's play.
Definitely a must have book for anyone considering breaking into the world of online course development.
My only complaint is that my book had a faulty binding. Some of the pages fall out of the book. It'll make it hard to flip back through to what I highlighted (which I'll be doing as it is such great info!) without damaging the pages.
There are some gold nuggets in this book. Interesting theories (can't say that I agree with all of them). Provided me with some interesting insights, broadened my knowledge about instructional design. The examples were relatable and helped me understand the message. There were some overlaps with what I already knew from reading resources that are easily accessible online.
Most of the content generates attention to this elusive Course Design Formula. Which you'll get to only after reading through lots of content. Granted that each chapter provides a layer which builds up to the formula, I found it repetitive after a while and gave me a sense of putting in content for the sake of padding out the book.
On hindsight, I might have been able to understand the Course Design Formula immediately without reading all those chapters; and going back to the chapters on the specific points that I'm not familiar with.

If you are venturing into online learning, through one of the many Learning Management Systems, then Rebecca's book should be at hand.
The book describes the various methods of teaching and how to transfer these ideas to the online classroom. And there is a system to follow to replicate that for yourself. It goes into great detail which was interesting, as some of the concepts were new to me.
If you've ever wanted to create a course, but don't know where to start, buy this book! It is a thorough and authoritative book that will set you up for best success.
Thanks to Rebecca Frost Cuevas for providing such a valuable and well-researched resource!
I completed the online Course Design Formula Master Course and was lucky to receive in advance the electronic version of the book; I loved it so much and realized what a valuable tool it is, I purchased the hardcopy. It's my 'checkpoint' each time I modify or create a new online course.
