I love Burrowes' books! I read "The Soldier" and was blown away by her writing and her wonderful characters; then I read "The Heir" and have followed up with all the stories of the Windham siblings. These are people I love to know. "The Courtship" is the story of how their parents (Percival, Duke of Moreland, and Esther, Duchess of Moreland) met and fell in love. The continuity with the novels is perfect. These wonderful parents have played important roles in the lives and stories of their children; now we get to know how their marriage and their unique relationship came about. Highly recommended back-story that adds additional richness to the Windham books.

In all the books in this series the author brings in the Duke and Duchess of Moreland, the parents, starting in the book "The Heir" Mostly they are rather minor characters but with an on-going presence. This short book tells about how the parents met (before Percy was the Duke) and is a charming story. I am waiting for the rest of their story as to where St. Just and Maggie enter the picture to be absorbed into the family. Nicely written and it is starting to fill in some of the gaps as to what happened before "The Heir" was written. If you are a reader who has been following this series I recommend this book. It could be read as a stand alone but I think some of the charm that comes with knowing the on going saga will be lost.

I know Esther and Percival, I've been reading about their children starting with The Heir and continuing with each new offering Grace Burrowes has gifted us with up to Lady Louisa's Christmas Knight. I might add that I am impatiently waiting for her next book. This novella gives us more insight to the Duke and Duchesse's love affair and shows just how their offspring became capable of such enduring love. I just admire Esther, she has such strength of character, enveloping her whole family with that love. This is a mixed family Percival wasn't always a Duke and he has children from earlier relationships. But this novella shows these two loving parents falling in love creating the bond that forms the bases of the Windham Dynasty. Great Job Grace Burrowes. You know I'm involved when I write a review, I'd rather be reading. This is a sincere Thank you to my author. Grace Burrowes is an author that can tell a satisfying story with few words and keeps you spell bound, impatiently waiting for her next effort. Did I mention I have all of her full-length books up to date..I thought so.

After reading Ms. Burrowes previous books its wonderful to read the about the way that the Duke of Moreland and his Duchess Esther met and married. The family stories have all been great and you can tell how much their 'graces' love each other even as the meddle in their chiildrens lives (particularly his grace Percival).

This is a short story of how the 'spare' met and courted the woman he loved. He never expected to become the Duke and from his relationship with his brother, I know he never wanted to become the Duke. The Windham's are a wonderful family definitey not the normal regency circle of stuffy nobles and now we know why.

Great story!

I usually buy books by author instead of by title. Grace Burrowes is a classic example of that. She would have to work extremely hard to write a bad book. I don't think it's possible. THE COURTSHIP is the flagship of a long list of her wonderfully addicting books. If you read this book, you'll be searching for all the books that follow in its wake. The love and feeling in COURTSHIP is so sweet and infectious, you will hug yourself for having been a vicarious part of it.

Where else will you see blue eyes described in such a poetic manner? Such a lovely turn of phrase.

This tiny lyrical passage struck me as representative of Ms. Burrowes' unique writing style. It is very original, fluid, and beautifully expressive.

I have begun my travels in Grace Burrowes Land in earnest, and what better place to begin than where IT all began?

Engaging story with satisfying depth of characterization, not only of the main protagonists, but of some minor players, as well. Quite remarkable, given the short length of the novella. Yet another demonstration of Ms. Burrowes' talent.

And Percival carried lemon drops in his snuffbox. How sweet is that? :)

This is yet another excellent FUN story. If you are a Grace Burrowes fan, and definitely if you are a "Duke's Obsession" fan, then this is a must read... a how it all began back story. The one obvious major flaw is that it is too short! This novella business is not for you Grace! I had to read it twice because I did not want it to end.

4.5 stars The courtship primarily takes place in a house party, where Lord Lord Percival Windham is among the most eligible bachelors, and Miss Esther Himmelfarb is a poor relation invited at the last minute, to fill out the numbers.

What I especially like about this novella:

1) The ridiculous names like Esther Himmelfarb, Gladys Holsopple.

2) The cattiness among the contenders for the attentions of Lord Percy, and the other Lords. Hello, Mean Girls, Regency version!

3) The witty nicknames, such as My Lady Hair Bows, Lady Needmore (for Needham), Sir Weasel.

So much about this novella was funny, such as the phrase, "Her Grace looming over the marriage with the calendar in one hand and a receiving blanket in the other..."

What I didn't like about this novella:

1) The gambling male cousin subplot for Esther doesn't quite seem strong enough.

2) Esther's request for kissing lessons come something out of the blue. She goes from playing whist and being relatively subservient to, "Swive me now!"

3) The misplaced message seems a bit contrived.

All in all, still a delight, and a quick, fun read. Those who've read the other Duke series novels by Ms. Burrowes will enjoy, and those who haven't, will probably still enjoy.
