Love this case-- high quality soft leather and protects the kindle without adding a lot of weight.

Originally, I had an Amazon-made case that attached with those little hooks that fit in the side of the kindle. I didn't like that one so I bought a similar case to this one but it was made of very low quality vinyl so I returned it.

This case, however, is perfect. It's well made and such a good value-- especially when compared to similar leather cases which sell here for 99 dollars (kindle dx cases are difficult to find in this design-- where the kindle slips in and the case protects all the corners).

The seller is excellent, too. They're in England but they shipped quickly and their communication was excellent. It took longer to arrive than I would have preferred but it did arrive much earlier than the estimated delivery time predicted. Highly recommended!

I may have to revise this review if anything changes down the road, as I have not had this case for an extended period of time, but for now it is pretty good. It's very lightweight and portable and it snaps closed nice and easily. The cover is soft and doesn't look cheap. It is easy to hold and there's no problem reading with it.
One thing that is a bit annoying for me is that the leather parts inside that hug the kindle in place do not stay flat. When you slide the kindle in, there is leather covering all the parts of the kindle that aren't the screen and buttons, and the strip going along the device's right side in particular is bunched up as if the kindle is stuffing it too big and it can't lay flat. I know, it's kind of hard to describe. It doesn't affect the quality of the case, but it is an annoyance and whenever I'm holding my kindle I play with it, futilely trying to get the unruly bit of leather to calm down and just lay flat already. It does hold the kindle in very tightly, just maybe a little too tightly judging by the way the case can't seem to hold it comfortably.
Also, while this case is good, I was expecting something thicker and sturdier. It isn't flimsy by any means, but the kindle dx is such a thin device that I wish I could wrap it in several layers of bubble wrap and encase it in steel. Unfortunately that is not practical, but I was expecting this case to be a bit thicker. There also is no screen protector, but that doesn't seem like something that would come with this type of case anyway.
Overall, this is a good case for a kindle dx. It only has a couple drawbacks and it's affordable. I would recommend it to other kindle users.

Photo on web appears to be leather; it looks more like plastic.
Supposed to have extensive white saddle stitching for contrast. Stitching is black and blend with cover.
Loose fitting around screen and keys and raises from Kindle.

Terrible purchase and am disappointed in Amazon. If it wasn't shipped from overseas I would return it.

I bought this because my other case that clips into the little slots starting shorting out my Kindle (an issue Amazon needs to keep an eye on). When I received it I realized that it clips in the back which makes absolutely no sense but okay. It makes it look and feel the case is on upside down and backwards.Other than that the quality and styling is great.

A beautiful cover for the Kindle DX! The leather's quality, texture and finish is excellent, as is the craftsmanship. The best part is that there are no hooks used to secure (and possibly crack) the body of the Kindle -- the DX slides snugly into the cover's sewn-in holder leaving the keyboard and all buttons accessible. This case looks so much better "in real life" than in the picture shown here. I was floored when we received it! As for customer service, Cover-Up ships incredibly fast! I received our order within 5 days of placing it (we live in Japan; Cover-Up ships from the UK). They beat their own estimated delivery date by weeks!

This is a wonderful case. I usually prefer the flip style instead of the book style, but none are available for the DX. This case is the closest to the Tuff-Luv flip case I had for my previous Kindle 2. It fits my DX securely, and sleekly. easy to hold. all buttons are easily accessable and the leather feels good to hold. protects the screen and the buttons. I feel this is much more secure than the little, tiny corner holder cases. I haven't seen or held one of the binder holder cases (where the prongs fit into the side holes on the kindle.) Best case I could find and it meets everyone of my expectations.

Nice cover, protects the DX and unlike my earlier one (different brand) that had only the 4 elastic bands at the corners (that worked well for a while, then it slipped out while I was in the hot tub) the DX can't slip out of this one.

I have had another case for my Kindle DX, which was also in black leather and had crochets inserting into the side of the device. It ended up breaking the side of the plastic screen holder and was no longer usable.

This case is made of much thicker and softer leather, and I enjoy holding it in hands a lot. It might be a little heavy, but Kindle DX is not a device you expect to be light, and at least it is very well protected inside. All the buttons are perfectly usable.

5.0 out of 5 stars FULL REVIEW - Slightly bulky and some some issues with the fit but excellent overall
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on September 21, 2010
I purchased this item having tried a silicone cover for my DX. The silicone cover was frankly rubbish and I am happy to say this one is much better, though it does have its drawbacks.

    THE GOOD

    The finish:

Good stitching, well made generally and surprisingly good leather. The product has a premium feel to it and it nice in your hands which I like as obviously reading with it is a tactile experience. There is a very sturdy feel to the cover and it provides a good amount of grip even after reading for extended periods when sweaty or oily palms can cause the 'naked' DX to become quite slippy. The hinge is made of leather as is of good quality, reassuringly strong enough to survive a lot of use but flexible enough to allow the cover to be bent fully behind the case so it can be tucked out of the way when reading. Likewise, the magnetic clip is pleasingly strong and I have never found it to come loose or be knocked open despite my occasional rough treatment.

    Protection:

The front and back covers both have reasonably thick and robust protective cores that are hard enough to ensure that the DX is protected at all times. I have thrown the DX into my bag with all kinds of pointy, hard and otherwise potentially damaging items that could have caused damage had this case not been in place. It does a great job in this regard. So much so in fact that you can really stop worrying about travelling with the DX as you know it will remain protected at all times.

    Sensible design:

One thing I found slightly odd was the magnetic clip appeared to be 'reversed' compared to the normal way such things are attached on similar protective cases. A quick look at the picture of the cases will show you what I mean - the clip is attached to the front cover of the case and the magnetic fastening actually takes place at the rear. The magnetic fastener on the back cover is also flush to the cover itself. This all makes sense when you undo the clip and open the case as a flat surface in maintained right across the back cover which is extremely useful when placing the case down on a hard surface as it lies completely flat. It also means that there is no annoying clasp in the way when actually holding the cover, which is arguably of greater benefit. Of course, the sacrifice is that when the clip is attached and the cover closed the case doesn't lie flat on a hard surface, but this is a small price to pay.

    THE BAD

    Fit:

I think it is a result of having to cater for the buttons down the extreme edges of the Kindle products but the covers I have tried all exhibit a similar problem - the strips running down the case between the buttons and the screen all have a tendency to ruffle up, don't sit properly or are overly loose (or a combination of all three!). This case suffers from a slight 'ruffle' to the strip of leather running down the side. Admittedly this products suffers from this affliction the least of those I have tried but it is still an issue. Fortunately it doesn't impede the operation of the Kindle and it does ease as time passes but it can be a little unsightly to start with.

I should clarify that aside from this 'ruffle' the case fits perfectly. It holds the Kindle very tightly without any fear of it slipping out (you insert the Kindle through an opening at the top of the case), all openings and slots are in exactly the right place and the cover only very slightly increases the width/height of the Kindle (by about the thickness of the leather in fact).

    Weight/Thickness:

I havent weight it but the case is at least as heavy as the Kindle DX (perhaps more) so when you use it you are effectively doubling the weight you were previously holding. Thankfully the DX is pretty light anyway and I certainly haven't felt any strain from using the case (I'm a 25 year old male) but those with weaker wrists or strength issues should take this into consideration - particularly if the reason you switched to an eReader was to move away from heavy books. Obviously any case will increase the weight overall but this one is particularly sturdily built which results in a slightly greater weight than you might imagine. For me, the setup is fine but your milage may vary.

Aside from weight, the thickness of the kindle is dramatically increased when in the case, it's probably 2.5 times as thick as normal. Again, as the Kindle is so thin to start with the full closed setup is still only about an inch thick. For most, this won't be much of a consideration but I did notice it was a slightly more snug fit in my bag with the case on. Every case you purchase will increase the thickness - just make sure you are happy with this before you buy.

    CONCLUSION

I recommend this product highly. It is a very well designed case that offers a very high level of protection. It is thoughtfully designed, fits tightly and it relatively lightweight given the level of protection it offers. It also uses good quality materials and the workmanship/stitching is a good standard. I have enjoyed the peace of mind this case has offered in my travels with my Kindle (taking it with me virtually everywhere since I got the case) and I actually like the feel of the leather compared to the metallic surface of the Kindle so the reading experience has been enhanced. It is quite a thick case thanks in part to the level of protection it offers (and it's still only 1 inch thick) but please bare this in mind when purchasing.

I have no doubt it will last the life of the Kindle and is therefore a sound investment.
