In this book, the Swedish doctor Sebastian Rushworth examines some of the most central questions about the Covid-19 pandemic: How deadly is Covid-19?What is long Covid? How accurate are the Covid tests?Does lockdown prevent Covid deaths? Why did Sweden have more deaths than other Nordic countries? What are the harms of lockdown?Do face masks stop Covid? Are the Covid vaccines safe and effective? Why did the world react so hysterically to Covid?Sebastian Rushworth is a junior doctor in Stockholm, Sweden. His blog about health and science is widely read across the English speaking world. In Covid: Why most of what you know is wrong Sebastian Rushworth demonstrates that Covid-19 is nowhere near as bad as it is portrayed by the mainstream media. He shows that the mortality rate is below 0.2%, meaning that for most people the risk of dying if infected is less than 1 in 500 (and less than 1 in 3,000 if you’re below 70 years of age). The disease preferentially strikes people who are anyway very close to the end of life, so the amount of lifetime lost when someone dies of the disease is usually tiny. Ther author also shows that 98% of people who get Covid are fully recovered within three months, and that there is no good evidence that Covid results in long term health consequences. Moreover, he points out that the measures taken to fight Covid, such as the lockdowns, the huge fear campaigns and the school closures, will result in far more years of life lost than will be lost to the virus directly. The data used in the book is publicly available, and frequently published in some of the most prestigious and respected scientific journals in the world.Advance praise by dr. Malcolm Kendrick:"Covid-19 has triggered a pandemic, and a panic. Many people are bewildered by the avalanche of information, often contradictory. On his blog, Sebastian Rushworth has been a voice of calm reason throughout, trying to help people make sense of what is going on. As a front line doctor in Sweden he has had a front-row seat, and keen understanding of the disease, and our response to it. He takes the reader though some of the science, in order to explain what he is talking about. It is clear, it is reasoned. He believes that the Swedish response, although widely critizised, has been based on good evidence, and may end up being seen as the best way to have handled the pandemic. If you want a guide to what is really going on with Covid-19, then I fully recommend this book. You will end up with a much more complete understanding, which is what we are all looking for, I think."

As a nurse and mother, and general human with 56 years experience, I am encouraged by the perspective of a relatively recent graduate of the medical education system, albeit from another country. The documentation is excellent and the facts well worded for the discernment of the average Jenny or Joe. I would describe what the global community has endured over the last 15 months as Medical Terrorism.

I read this book in one sitting as it is so compelling and well-written. Like many people, I've had my doubts about the hysteria surrounding the covid, especially after reading John Ionnadis' essay early on. This Swedish doctor lays out the case for this being closer to the 1957 flu pandemic - a severe flu without a doubt but not anywhere near the 1918 flu pandemic. He explains that when we look at years of life lost from the covid (with the average age of death from covid in Sweden being 84) versus the years of life lost from the lockdown - ie increasing childhood disease due to lack of vaccination, increase in child abuse, and eventually increase in starvation and deaths from poverty - it looks like the response to the covid will end up being far worse than the disease itself. I highly recommend reading this book and buying a copy for someone who still has an open mind to think for themselves.

Sebastian Rushworth has been a voice of reason and science throughout this pandemic. This book as well as his website are an invaluable source of science-based information about Covid, health and the field of medicine, complemented by his personal and professional insight.
Rushworth MD has a unique talent for presenting a lot of information and data from scientific studies in a clear manner that most readers will find engaging and relatively easy to understand. While presenting this information he will explain how he reached the conclusions that he drew, and teach the reader how to interpret statistics and scientific studies. From reading his work you will not only learn facts, but you may also acquire a valuable skill set.
This book is an excellent collection of science-based knowledge about Covid. I highly recommend it to anyone, because this pandemic touches all of our lives, and we have a civil obligation to educate ourselves on the subject and stand up for the truth.

This book is an excellent resource for those wanting (or perhaps better said needing) a comprehensive assessment of every aspect of the hyper-response to Covid. I would only add that he did not mention that any alternative treatments have been quashed over the past year in order to justify vaccinations being released with emergency use authorization. Also, his summary did not mention the billions of dollars being put into the pockets of pharmaceutical companies as part of the how/why we have gotten to where we are. Billions can buy a lot of advocates.

This is by far the best work on the current state of COVID that I have read. While I'm wasn't convinced that most of what I knew was wrong, I do have to reconsider some of the positions I have taken. I strongly believe that no matter where you stand (or sit) you can gain something from this work.
Rushworth starts with an introduction of himself then dives right into the issue at hand. He covers what really happened in Sweden (his home country) on a policy level and later in the book he examines possible reasons why Sweden's results were different than the rest of Scandinavia.
The real meat in this book is in chapters 3 and 4 where the author explains how to read and understand scientific studies on a layman's level and who statistics are used and applied in these studies. I finally understand what a p-value is.
Once Rushworth establishes his background and how he examines scientific studies he then explores masking, lockdowns, the vaccines and other areas of contention. He shines the light of reason upon ALL of the arguments and on both sides.

As many people suspected, this is a political flu run amok. Your explanations of how scientific studies are created, and sometimes manipulated, is good. I studied how experiments are created and carried out in graduate school, and I learned that (as you stated), the results of an experiment are not always reported truthfully, but based on how the entities funding the study need the results to BE in order to further their goal, however nefarious that may be. I appreciate your honesty in talking about whether or not to get vaccinated. Personally, I haven't had any kind of vaccine since I was a young child, which was many decades ago. That has been my choice. I am healthy and happy. Your book shows people that they must do due diligence in determining how to understand data, and how to understand what's really going on BEFORE having a knee jerk reaction to potentially false and/or grossly manipulated data.

Not only is there much to learn about the virus, use of masks, vaccines, et.al. ... but the author does the reader the great service of placing those specifics within a larger, easy to comprehend context of how medical studies are constructed and evaluated in general, which provides a valuable foundational knowledge for future reference in evaluating , even as a lay person, the merits of information likely to surface in the months (if not years) ahead. The writing is exceptionally clear, easy to follow, and layman-friendly.

I am a big fan of Sebastian Rushworths diligent trawling of the scientific papers, and his regular blogs.
I just wish our political leaders had his advice, and not the model-based, inaccurate testing and poor hysterical reactionary politics that is ruining the country, and making everyone’s life a misery.

For people that want to hear a balanced and truth based view of the Covid situation from a medical doctor.
No hyperbole or subjective opinion is present, just conclusions based on scientific facts and studies.
In a nutshell, don't believe the main stream media and political hysteria.

Excellent and easy to read explanation of Covid

Sebastian Rushworth gives an up to date real assessment of covid. He covers Sweden well. Reviews the science. Explains why lockdowns are ineffective. Reviews the vaccine trials so that you can make up your own mind on whether or not to take a vaccine. Many main stream media journalists could do with reading this book in order to educate themselves and be able to challenge government on it's fear led futile strategy.

Read and weep at the actions taken by Governments around the world, using science to hold us hostage

This is a brilliant book. Provides scientific information in layman’s terms. Assesses the real threat of COVID and the collateral damage of medieval use of lockdowns, which are completely ineffective. The unwillingness of Governments to undertake cost benefit assessments, as they destroy people’s lives and livelihoods, should not be allowed to pass unnoticed. Many thanks to Sebastian for having the courage to speak out and highlight the damage that has been done, in the name of science.

Seriously considering buying a copy for each of my extended family members ...
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 26, 2021Verified Purchase
If you want a sane, scientific, statistically disciplined data driven perspective on the past 12 months of global mass hysteria concerning a particular respiratory virus then this is most definitely the book for you. All the facts and figures that mainstream media and our executive overreaching overlords definitely won't bother to educate you with. This book will give you the facts and figures that will become ever more important to understand so that you might just be able to counter the daily shaving away of civil liberty and personal freedom that so-called democracies are gorging themselves on. Educate yourselves, knowledge is power and Sebastian Rushworth is a trustworthy teacher, in my humble opinion.
