If you're into small town, second-chance at love with a cowboy love story this one's for you. Carson and Annie had a past. They were once inseparable until Annie had to leave their small town for the big city. After twenty years, she's once again back in Marietta, MN to... Well, find herself and contemplate her future. She was not expecting to be reunited once again with Carson.
For Carson, Annie is the one who got away who left him for the big city. Now, at thirty-three and a single father of an adorable kid, he can't seem to shake Annie off his mind and dreams after seeing her again in Marietta, MN. He's battling between his once teenage love and his doubts of her motive in coming back to their small town. Sure, Annie's presence could make his Christmas more hot and steamy than the usual Montana December weather but would he be willing to make the same mistake twice?
I love cowboy stories but I have to admit reading about Carson constantly reminding Annie of her running away from him and their small town, and Annie constantly apologizing for her leaving is annoying. I ended up skipping chapters and went straight close to the ending. It would be nice to read about Carson trying to woo her, or Annie bonding with Evan and the Scott brothers. I would love to read more about the Scott family and how they celebrate this Special Holiday.
Annie has been gone 15 years from Marietta, Montana. She had big city dreams that just didn't work out. She returns home and gets a job at the diner in town. Her old love Carson is a handsome cowboy. He lost his wife and is raising his son. Carson and Annie wonder if it is possible to start over. Carson worries about Annie not sticking around. He remembers how she just wanted to get away before.
Carson Scott is a single dad bringing up his six-year-old son Evan. His wife, Rainey, died in a car accident on her way home. Since then, it has been up to Carson to be there for Evan. Carson runs the Christmas tree farm that their mother set up. He is relatively content with his life, although somewhat lonely.
Annie Prudhomme had left Marietta fifteen years ago breaking Carson’s heart when she left. Although she asked him to go with her, he knew his life was here in Marietta. She set out to make herself an interior design business which she did. She married and lived a life of leisure with everything she could desire. It was their choice not to have children and Annie was content with that. Then her life came to an abrupt end. Her husband was arrested for fraud and everything was confiscated to be sold. She was allowed to take the dog and a small duffle bag of clothes along with an old Mustang. Having no place to go, she headed for Marietta and the ranch she swore she would never return to. Luckily the money she made in her business paid for the ranch so the FBI decided it was hers so she was able to keep it. Now she is left with a run-down ranch and house and was able to get a waitressing job at the diner. Annie is determined to pull herself out of this hole again. Then, she runs into Carson at the diner and the feelings she had for him resurface. He realizes he still is attracted to her as well. However, unless she decides on her own to stay in Montana, he can’t allow himself to get to attached to her. What will she decide?
