HEARTS AND DIAMONDS by Cheryl Pierson
Surprisingly lighthearted, optimistic, fun, and a surprise love where Libby (Liberty) least expected to find it. I was caught off guard with how quickly Nick Diamond let go of his life-long angst, but I guess love can heal a man in strange ways. [3.5 stars]
STARR BRIGHT by Celia Yeary
Two very different ranchers: light and dark, indigent childhood and silver-spoon...but both so very determined and independent. Conrad Taylor had no idea what an amazingly right fit Starr Hidalgo is, until he actually spends more than a few minutes in her presence and gives himself a chance to know her. This story didn't go where I expected it to (not a twist; didn't fulfill promises made early on)...but enjoyable enough. [3.5 stars]
LILY AND MESQUITE JOE by Kristy McCaffrey
Once I figured out who was who, and how they were related to one another, the story really took off. I enjoy "princess and the cowboy"-themed books (you're not good enough for me, darlin')... and Lily certainly proved she loved her man (Joe). I would have liked to have seen Joe be the one who did at least half of the begging (and not Lily), but it'll do. Joe's honor and integrity won me over. [4 stars]
MAKING PEACE by Kathleen Rice Adams
I so enjoyed this related story to Ms. Adams's THE BIG UNEASY (a novella contained in the anthology LASSOING A MAIL-ORDER BRIDE), to give Bennett (Ben) Collier his own HEA. I never saw him with a woman like Maggie Fannin...and he certainly didn't, either. A more unlikely pair never existed, but WOW, are they perfectly right for each other. The chemistry sizzled, the motivation was ALL there, and I loved a glimpse at the happily-ever-after (HEA) between Ben's brother and bride (THE BIG UNEASY). LOVED IT. [rock solid 5 stars]
