I had read the other books, so I was able to appreciate the romance and the revisit with all the characters.
It was a little thin plot-wise, but the plot that was there, grabbed me - especially the parts with Spencer (which I totally called pretty early on, btw!), as self-chosen families and MCs who are parents or caretakers are my kryptonite.
The story is well written and the story-line will keep you reading. I liked that there was no unnecessary drama and that these guys were able to communicate and create an amazing relationship.
This book could be read as a stand-alone, however it would make the interactions between these MC's appear as kinda instant love, when in fact their relationship was developing for a long time. The previous books are awesome and so worth reading, so treat yourself to the whole series.
Having gotten to know these men in the periphery of the other Rules books this story didn't feel like insta-love or insta-lust at all. If read on its own, it might be seen that way, but the depth has been building for quite some time now and I couldn't be more pleased how these men finally get onto the same romantic page together. They were hella steamy, so sweet I needed to brush my teeth, and they communicated. Wait, they used their words? Why, yes, yes they did. Lots of points right there that they didn't shy away from expressing what they needed, wanted, feared, and hoped. And when their hearts reached out to Spencer who needed them? It's like they were already so united that they couldn't help but work toward the same goal. I really loved how this story came together for these two men and that neither of them were ashamed of their "dating" history but knew that from then on it would be just the two of them. Their expectations and fears were realistic and addressed appropriately. I'm totally sold on Matt and Lincoln.
This is really one of my favorite rules though. We've gotten to know Lincoln and Matt a bit in the earlier books but it's awesome to get to see them fully developed and learn so much about what makes each of them tick, and what seems fairly fast here isn't really when you know they have a background as friends/part of the group. They really complement each other perfectly and I loved seeing Matt come really figure things out and moving forward from what was holding him back. Plus of course they have both sweet and steamy moments that I just loved, yum...what's not to like. And once they started moving forward into seriousness they kept communicating and figuring things out for the most part-minor things but otherwise they didn't let stupidity or lack of talking about big stuff get in the way (which I think is sometimes an overused plot point, but not here!). Another reason I really enjoyed this is because of the family aspects-family, whether blood or chosen/friends-to-family, is one of my favorite aspects of series. Here we see family of the MCs plus our favorite chosen family characters from previous Rules-and Matt and Lincoln also have some big, unexpected, but perfect fit family happening as they move forward. It's all amazing and I loved it!
Highly recommended book and series-you won't be complaining about following these Rules!

Their love story is hard at first, but as they have been dancing around each other for a while, once they realise they are it, then things go smoothly.
I really enjoyed the whole story, it was sweet, sexy and perfect.
I highly recommend
