This may be a good fit on my ring light

I just received this adjustable stand and i am very unpleased with it. I will be sending it back, I'm just always busy and don't know when yet. This may be a good fit on my ring light, but I'm afraid, because of its light weight, it may drop. i also planned on attaching my camera on this to make video but in no way i am going to take the risk. I'm upset because i was so excited about this stand, i had no idea it was this light weight. i get it was $19.00 so i shouldn't have expected much from it anyways. This stand is extremely plastic. I gived it one star because because of its quality, i couldn't do anything with this stand at all. ugh. The only thing i like about it is its length, this thing can go as long and I'm 5" tall, i feel like its doubled my either like 3 times lol.

A functional light duty, low cost light stand

First of all I'll say that I am happy with these for the price. For the price my expectations were extremely low but they were met. You get what you pay for here and my rating reflects that.

I'll first talk about the physical aspects. The stand is constructed from metal poles painted black, round in section for all but the centre column where the legs attach that has groves in which the legs slide. The spigot at the top seems to be screwed and glued in place (a typical sign of cheap construction). The legs are just tubes with plastic end caps with two "bars" attaching each to the base of the central support. The sections of the central column have lever type pressure fastenings which work for now but feel flimsy. The legs are locked in place with a bolt tightening a plastic collar: again, flmsy but functional.

In use the footprint is relatively small and the item is light weight so though it can support my 80cm octobox if I position it such that the box is directly over one of the legs, if the box lies between the legs the stand will fall over even at chest height. To relatively weak fastenings that hold the sections extended make me hesitant to put anything too heavy on the stand or to extend it fully. There is a lot of flex so I typically try and distribute any elevation between the sections evenly for greater height or only use the lower one for lower height, otherwise it bends. The spigot works fine as a mounting point or to screw another mount onto.

Despite my apparently poor review, overall I am happy with this item. It met my low expectations but I definitely wouldn't entrust it to hold any significant weight, at any significant height in any adverse conditions. Basically, if you just want to put your speed light on a stand, possibly with an umbrella (indoor only): this will work. If you want to use bigger modifiers or studio strobes: look elsewhere.

I like the aluminum stand

I like the aluminum stand. I use it for my ring light. However the moment I took it out of the bag a little black piece that belong in the part that holds the poles in place fell right off. I didn't even have it out the bag for 5 seconds before that happened. It has 2 poles that extend but being that the part fell off I can only extend one of the poles. So it does not extend to the full height. Would've given it 5 stars but I feel no matter how cheap a product is, I still feel pieces should not be falling off while still brand new. Maybe after wear and tear but not while brand spanking new.

They are great for travel because they are light and fold down small enough to fit in my luggage. I have had them for about a year now and they are holding up ok. They are not the best built or the sturdiest stands in the world, but if you use common sense and do not over load them and always weight them down they work just fine. I would not put anything very heavy on them.

I ordered 2 of these and one stand works fine but the other begins to close up when a little pressure or weight is placed atop the stand. Not worth getting if you've spent any kind of money on good lights/equipment. There's a very cheap, basic "locking" knob that holds the stand open, but it doesn't work so well and probably won't last very long either. The mount is removable but doesn't accept other mounts unless they're shaped exactly like the default one.
The carrying bag should be at least 1/2" longer as the stand fits very tightly with little room to quickly zip up.
I'll probably add a clamp on after opening to keep it from closing up on me. I will definitely save and invest in better equipment next time.

Hard to qualify how I feel about this stand

I'll start by saying that I make a living by lighting film sets. I've seen all kinds of stands, good and bad, cheap and expensive. This is the worst lighting stand I have ever used - but this is also the most inexpensive lighting stand I have ever used. I get that people are on a budget. That's why I gave it 4 stars. Value. If I had to use this thing every day for work I would go insane. But, If you need a stand to help you do the occasional personal project, you will probably be quite satisfied.
The cheapest stands that I use for work are the ARRI kit stands, about $100. The most expensive stands that I use are American Grip Roadrunner 200 stands, about $7000. I got this Cowboy Studio stand as a daily deal for $15. It comes with a bag, not sure what that's for. It's really clumsy to open and uses cheap materials. That said, you will be hard pressed to find a better value, especially if it's just for occasional, personal use. Buy one or two!
