A Cowboy's Soul is a collection of songs loosely related to the cowboy life and themes of the American West. Several of the songs - "Gonna Leave Old Texas," "The Gal I Left Behind," "Windy Bill," and "The Old Chisholm Trail" ? are authentic cowboy songs. "Cowboy Concerto" is an original instrumental. "Old Man Mose is Dead" is a blues jump written by Louis Armstrong in 1935. "Old Cowhand from the Rio Grande" is a cowboy comedy tune written by Johnny Mercer in 1936. "Today" is a sentimental ballad. "It's Tight Like That" is another blues jump, first recorded in the 1920s.
