Josh Stanton can raise the death. He’s known it since his childhood, and has tried to avoid corpses all his life. But when he arrives home to his beloved mentor corpse and sees her moving, he has to put her to sleep forever. Too bad he is known deemed a murderer and has to flee his home town in search for answers.
Deputy Dexter Wells is Josh’ best friend. He cannot believe Josh is a murderer, so he tries to find him to get his side of the story. When the two of them meet, Dex realises there is a lot going on, and that Josh is right when he talks about mysterious vampires and dead people walking. But it is going to be as difficult to prove his story, as to deny the passion they feel to each other. With the help of a stubborn woman, Glory, they decide to face the enemy, using one danger to neutralise the other. But things do not go as planned.
This was a great book, a very well written terror story mixing different traditions in a surprising setting (the Far West), with fascinating characters and an action packed storyline. I loved it from the beginning, I could not put it down, being completely caught by the slow burning love story between Josh and Dex, and the thrilling events going on. Only one drawback: a cliffhanger at the end. I hate them, I would have preferred to be warned on advance (though If I had known I would not have read the book, which is really good, so…Now I am confused)
In short, really worth your time if you like terror stories with a cliffhanger at the end...
