Cozy Mystery Book Review: If you are a cozy reader (and especially those of the culinary variety) then you know how delectable those recipes at the end of the mystery are. Nancy Lynn Jarvis has helped fans of those recipes and compiled an awesome cookbook with lots of cozy mystery recipe goodness!! With a star studded list of contributing authors this cookbook has everything from main courses and desserts, with over 220 recipes! Each recipes contains an introduction to the author and their books, followed by a mouth-watering recipe. If you buy one recipe book this year make it Cozy Food. After I finished browsing the recipes I was pleased to see that Nancy Lynn Jarvis includes the Cozy Mystery Author's Biographies, and includes book lists. I will definitely be checking out all the books by these authors. I'm pretty sure there is enough cooking and reading to last me a full year!
From the Author
Cookbook editor Nancy Lynn Jarvis has graciously said all of her contributors can be noted as an author. Those who are familiar with me will know this is the only time my name will appear in a cookbook--and these are not my recipes! They are recipes from "Trouble on the Doorstep" (fifth the the Jolie Gentil series), and are the tried-and-true muffin recipes of my friend Leigh Michaels.
Many thanks to Nancy Lynn for organizing the book!
This was a greet surprise when it arrived. Full of interesting looking recipes that I want to start making immediately. There is also a nice section for goodies for your pets. In the back, is a great condensed section about every cozy mystery author who has contributed to this book, with a short bio and list of all their books. I am really enjoying reading this as a book. There are a great selection of munchy type items that can be used for book group meetings, as well as yummy whole meal choices. Each recipe is attributed to the author who contributed it to this book of cozy mystery writers' recipes.
It's a recipe compilation based on foods described in various cozy mysteries. The basic theme of the book and basic definition of the characters involved in the recipes are outlined as an intro to the recipes. It's a fun cookbook, especially when I am familiar with the book/character. There are some really tasty-looking recipes that I plan to try.
As a devoted cozy mystery reader (and writer--The "To Die For" mysteries featuring Carrie McCrite and Henry King) I was invited to contribute to this cookbook. Oh, boy--what an honor. My friend Carrie is a, well, a "casual" cook, devoted to EASY recipes, and often inventing as she goes. Some of her unique recipes that have proved to be popular with my readers are included here. (Two or three of her cooking adventures are included in each novel and then the recipes are printed in the back of the book.
But, I digress. I, like Carrie, am a casual cook, and, after having prepared family meals for many years, often depend on long-time favorites and side trips I invent or find in cookbooks--like this one. Lots to enjoy here. I do admit, when ingredients get beyond a dozen, and instructions beyond a half page, my eyes begin to glaze over. Shucks! I'd rather be writing!
Love owning this book (I bought two copies) and sharing it.
This cookbook is perfect for cozy mystery lovers. It has a ton of recipes. The bios in the back are really interesting and the outtakes are really funny. I read about some of my favorite mystery authors and found a whole bunch of new ones to try out. Looking forward to breaking out my apron and trying some of these tasty recipes.
Fascinating look into the tastes and choices of favorite authors.....many choices of interesting and familiar dishes. With two friends, we planned a "Favorite Author" dinner, and had all the foods made from recipes in the book. It was delicious and fun! Plan to use these recipes often.
I enjoyed reading this cookbook as much as I know I will enjoy making the recipes in it. In addition to finding some of the drool-worthy treats from my favorite cozy mysteries, I found several new authors and series I can't wait to read. I look forward to enjoying this cookbook for a long time to come.
