My school doesn't offer any AP English classes but I wanted to try the test anyways, and with the help of this book I was able to score a 5 on my exam! Two things that especially helped me that other prep books didn't seem to have were the review of literary movements (great advice on the types of works you should study and themes to look for) and the level of detail in explanations of answers for the multiple choice practice tests. Parts of the book are also written in a hilariously snarky manner, making test prep actually sort of... enjoyable? All in all I would definitely recommend this book to a friend.

As a high school sophomore taking the AP Lit course, I found that this book was exceedingly helpful with the multiple choice on the AP exam. However, the essay section towards the end was incredibly brief; while a naturally vague topic, the essay section was not explored in depth and did not help me with my writing skills. Because essays are 55 percent of the test, I thought that more coverage on that area is necessary in order to achieve a five. However, if this book is merely to supplement the AP course, I would highly recommend it - most teachers focus on the essay section, and the multiple choice guide helped me to improve.

this book is the same as the 2011 edition. when compared, they have the same questions and passages. however, in this version, the formatting is different and they somehow forgot to change the questions. this means that the lines in the passages don't match up, and the questions become very confusing. It's as if they gave up halfway through!
tl;dr: buy the 2011 version instead!

It was a great book for last minute studying! I started reading it like a week before the test and was able to finish in time and take both practice tests! So if you are short on time but don't want to miss out on any essential info, buy this book!
