“A coffee table book for insatiable fans of all things Narnia. Looking at the first two movies in the series, this is a fantastically detailed book....” (Faithfulreader.com)

From the Back Cover

Written and designed by the artists of Academy Award winning special effects house Weta Workshop, this indispensable book chronicles their stunning conception and design of the world of Narnia for Andrew Adamson’s The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and the forthcoming The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (May 2008). With detailed photography, hundreds of never before seen drawings and sculptures and commentary from the artists and craftspeople of the workshop, this beautiful four-color collector’s edition follows the journey of ideas, from initial sketches through beautifully finished designs to final, exquisitely hand-crafted props, costume pieces, and settings.

Armed with a wealth of fascinating facts and unique imagery, The Crafting of Narnia promises to be a striking, essential companion to The Chronicles of Narnia.

This book is a must have for fans of Narnia. There is alot in this book which cannot be seen in the movie and wouldn't otherwise be seen except in a book of this type. From prototype art to maquettes, to fine detail on props, it can be truly appreciated in this book and brings attention to the finer work that was undertaken in the movie. It brings about even more the appreciation of characters and design.

As a collector of Art books, I was quite excited to see that this book was made for these films. Weta Workshop (the award winning special effects group that brought movies like The Lord of the Rings to the big screen) Always astound me with their attention to seemingly unimportant details, and this book does not fail in this regard. However, I must rate it only four stars due to other factors that were involved. The first is that, unlike Weta's books on The Lord of the Rings films, this book seems very short; Even though it contains the making of two films at once unlike the others. Also, this book sacrifices extra art for a long drawn out commentary, which we really don't need. Lastly, it refers to art (Such as John Howe's Father Christmas sketch) that are not actually sown in the book. Why mention it if you are not going to show it to us? Other than that, the book is quite well but together wit amazing art. A good read for any fan of "Behind the Scenes".

I wasn't a huge fan of the film, but I love the work of WETA Workshop. This is a hefty book at 304 pages with tons of concept artwork and finished work. Highly recommended for fans of the film or WETA Workshop.

I got this book thinking it would have a good selection of Justin Sweet work since he was a key concept artist for the film. However, this is not an "art of Narnia" book - it is only the WETA art of narnia. Weta is a big team of concept artists, none of whom, frankly, are much good. Their amateurish art stunk up the Lord of the Rings art books, but was there offset by Alan Lee, John Howe, Paul LaSaine, and Jeremy Bennett. Here its 100% Weta and 100% bad. I threw my copy in the trash. If you like Weta this could be a good book, but know what you're getting before buying this.

I know it is probably not very economically smart of me right now (it's not a stereotype about college students being poor, trust me), but I am big on collecting "making of" and "art of" books, mostly for Disney movies. This was no exception. When I saw it was on sale, I had to get it. There are many beautiful photographs and some very interesting concept art. A must-have for the collector of books about the making of various Disney movies.

The crafting of the two films of Narnia is all here. We have traditional concepts, digital concpets, sculpture, and some photography compositions for background scenery.
All the drawings are very worked, and there are some drawings of the weapons, that they have care a lot. The presentation is great and the book have so many pages.
Recommended.
