Then I had so many questions plot wise. Why let Lucy go with them to these potentially dangerous worlds? Because she would pitch a fit about not going? At least going forward after this book, I can understand why she would be needed, but beforehand it just doesn’t make sense. Then I didn’t understand why they all felt that they needed to go to the dark mountains. I know why Abby wanted to go but not why everyone else felt they needed to. The best I could figure after going back and rereading to try and find the answer is that they thought the seventine were there? If that was the case, then why did they say they didn’t know what to do to stop them if they found them when they were there? Seemed completely pointless except to serve Abby’s motives and advance that part of her storyline. The motives were just confusing to me.
Even though I liked Spurn’s storyline better, I see the writing getting better with each book which makes me see potential for the rest of the series. Okay let’s see what the next one has.
I loved it. At first, I wondered if I was going to like it as it's slated in the Young Adult section. Don't let that put you off. The characters are so well written and deeply developed that you will be immersed in the story and want to keep going. The author does leave each book with a cliffhanger, which just made me keep going (hence the binge read).
I liked that the books weren't short little tiny reads. They had a good length to them. As far as being predictable, there were a few spots that I guess what was up, but a whole lot more that I didn't even see coming.
The way the characters interact with each other is awesome. I especially love the relationships between Abby, her Dad and Brace. The characters don't always get along, happily ever after, and that makes things feel more real. In each book, a new half walker is introduced. Some of them are spitfires, some gentle, but they all bond in a believable way.
POV switches back to Abby after the intro to Crais and Fury. Poor Abby, wondering what's happening to Brace, he's a little possessed and she really misses him. Lucy is starting to show some of her own powers, but she's still upset over Sam being a dirty, dirty betrayer. And where was Sam???? I'm still wondering why he did what he did in the conclusion of the last book, hopefully he pops up in the story again in the next book. BUT we are introduced to Colt towards the end of this book, and he's really hot and seems interested in Lucy - hopefully she forgets all about Sam and moves on with Colt. That would be great. Onto the next book in the series.
We also get to see Abby make a ginormous mistake that she does willingly to get Brace back (and she does!!!) but also helps the Seventine out...she releases the third...yikes...but can you blame her? Brace IS her soul mate! Anyway, as with all third books in a series, this is more background and informational. Nothing earth shattering really happens until the end of the book where we find out that Lucy's soothsayer abilities are saying that Abby won't be able to defeat the Seventines if she doesn't break the melding...poor Abby and Brace just cannot catch a break :(
