The love scenes are combustible, I mean toe curling goodness! But, more than that, this story had a sweetness about it. Sarge is so genuine and loves with his whole heart. There was an imbalance of feelings between the two, I felt Sarge loved Jasmine way more than the other way around until the end. I love an older woman/younger man romance, they always melt my butter. The supporting cast of characters is great in this book, and I already see many possible spin-offs from this story!
Tessa always brings it, I know when I start a Tessa Bailey book, the ending will leave a smile on my face! I love her heroes, they are always alpha to the core, but with a heart of gold. Her heroines always strong and capable, no shrinking violets here! This is just a great book to curl up with on a cold night, but I highly recommend you are not alone when you read it, if you know what I mean (waggling eyebrows) :-)
We soon find out that Sarge hasn’t been home since he left after high school, and pretty much never looked back well physically anyway. The only problem this never looking back you never know what s*** storm you’re walking into when you finally return. Sarge soon finds out that things aren’t as good as he thought with his family. Not only is he meeting his niece for the first time his sister won’t let him in the house.
As Sarge tries to figure out his next step, he finds himself in a bar helping the one person he wants out of his system. The reason he ran from Hook and never looked back. Jasmine.
Jasmine is seven years Sarge’s senior. She’s also River, Sarge’s older sister’s best friend. This spitfire puts up every kind of wall she can to hide the attraction she now feels for a man she used to babysit and is her best friends little brother. Though he’s not so little anymore. In this respect Sarge reminds me of my little brother, he’s now 6’3 and yet being ten years younger I still call him my little brother. Poor guys.
When Sarge and Jasmine get pushed together because of River not letting Sarge in his childhood home, Sarge is determined to finally get Jasmine out of his system the only way he can, because writing songs about her hasn’t helped. Yep he’s going to screw her out of his head, heart and anything else he can come up with.
As Sarge works his magic, Jasmine lets down her guard a little at a time, yet her insecurities are still obstacles Sarge will have to over come. In someways Sarge is learning Jasmine all over again because when he left she didn’t have the insecurities. She was fearless. Four years later she’s no longer fearless.
As always I love Tessa’s work. She creates characters we can relate to in someway. Most are down to earth even when they come from money. Take Sarge even though he’s this big “rock god” he still remembers where he came from and doesn’t let it go to his head which is saying something for a twenty two year old. The parts of Crashed Out where we see River and Sarge’s relationship so reminded me of my little brother and myself. Granted Helioboy isn’t a “rock god” but I did help take care of the man when he was a kid. So even though we are states/oceans/countries apart I still want to look out for him.
And this is what I mean by Tessa created a story her fans and other readers can relate too. On the flip side this story is Sarge and Jasmine’s story and as will all of Tessa’s novels the heat is there. Make sure you’re significant other is near by when you read those scenes. :)
For previous Bailey readers I'd peg Made in Jersey series as a combination of Line of Duty and Broke and Beautiful. The sweetness and playfulness of the super group combined with the intensity and uber-hotness of Line of Duty.
Sarge absolutely blew me away with his . . . everything. Hot, endearing, giving, confident, sweet and endless other amazing adjectives. I have a huge soft spot for the guys who try to take care of those around them, and spoil them. Sarge meeting his niece melted me and his car interlude with Jasmine was nearly supernova. Sarge wasn't perfect, having a few issues with anger, leaving people, and trying to "fix" things that weren't necessarily broken. But honestly he was about as perfect as anyone can get.
Jasmine required a little more warming up to. I loved her attitude and protectiveness over her life/ the people she loved. I was a bit frustrated she wouldn't let Sarge in, mainly because I could see his point of view and how much he felt for her. Watching Jasmine's confidence grow was interesting. Seeing her journey from bitterness her dream didn't come true, to acceptance having everything she really wanted sent a good message. Failing doesn't mean the end.
Together, they were more than explosive. I can't wait for Tessa to do a check-in with those two someday. The ending was feel-good and a little sappy, but I totally ate it up. I'm excited for the next part of the series, a novella starting James and Lita. There was such tension from these two spitfires. I cannot wait. Of course I'm very interested in what will happen to River, Sarge's sister, in the next book. Someone is going to have a lot of groveling to do.
Basically, pick up this book! Sarge's sweetness will warm you up better than warm blankets and cocoa. He'll be your newest book boyfriend, guaranteed!
Teaser Lines: " Sarge muttered something in his sleep and turned over on the bed. Everything south of Jasmine’s breastbone tugged. Don’t look…don’t look…
She looked. And her chin fell."
See you real soon!
