This particular entry had so much potential but fell flat for me. I was looking forward to Crave's story and Twitch was probably a great match for him, but the time frame and abuse attributed to Twitch (every one of these guys has a terrible abuse story of some kind, usually) is wrapped up way, way to quickly. After 3 or 4 years of yearning and no real contact (seriously, no physical contact at all) or relationship building, the quick relationship and super unlikely overcoming of serious hang ups and mental abuse was simply unbelievable. Whatever the reason for the behavioral change camps/therapy, torture, he underwent it sorta mocks the hard work it takes to overcome the serious brainwashing Twitch has been programmed to believe. Based on all the physical, mental and emotional problems Twitch has endured and physical solutions he used, this book probably needed to be at least twice as long as it was. The author should dial back the trauma to more superficial issues or research and do right by the abused characters.
Editing was poor as well.
Having said that, I don’t read these for perfection, I read them for fun, and this was a definitely fun book.
I know I’ve hopped into the middle of a world that’s already established, and I didn’t expect to understand everything off the bat, but the world felt like the author had invested emotional bonds with everyone.
I really like that.
As for the leads, I found them both lovely. The relationship was already there, but the last few steps needed to go for it we’re a great place to develop.
I will say that I wish Crave had someone to stand up for him. I get the feeling that that was supposed to be Twitch, but in the end it came across as if Crave wasn’t actually cared for or liked by his friends. It soured a good chunk of the story for me.
Having said that, I will definitely read more of this authors work. It hits all my favorite tropes.
Having said that, I really enjoyed Twitch and Crave--love twinks with big, bad men. I didn't notice this was a spin-off from another series. Maybe there was a faint impression we were supposed to know these people, but it didn't take away from the story for me. I think it works find as a stand-alone.
If you enjoy a slow burn and beautiful, emotionally needy twinks who need to cuddle living among large men with big, bad names like Crave and Psycho and can carry said Twink in a fireman's carry or even on their hips (yes, you read that right), you'll enjoy Crave.
Crave and Twitch is the next couple to find each other. They have both been interested in the other man for a while but Craves fear of becoming like his father and Twitch's trauma after being bullied, having heartless parents who send him to a gay conversion camp and suicide attempts doesn't belive in happiness. I'm still as happy as I was from the first book when these scared men find the one.
