Editorial Reviews

"You're in for a treat ... a troubled marriage, a woman's struggle for independence, and an artist'sconflict between ideals and the way of the world--Arnold treats them all with intelligence andsensitivity."--Los Angeles Times Book Review"An intelligent, dramatic novel of discovery."--Chicago Tribune"A rare book...instead of telling one person's tale, A Craving achieves the universality of any good fiction."---Newsday

When the story begins, Polly is already an estranged alcoholic and her disease only serves to further alienate her from her husband and children. The alcoholic tells of her being her only accomplice; she feels like a pariah and can trust only herself in her fantastic attempt to disguise her disease.  Arnold's rendering of the alcoholic's imaginary if tenacious and obstreperous burden of indictment is superbly uncompromising.
