Well...the dress came out of the wash worse than it went in! The ketchup was out but it had marks everywhere! I wish I could upload the picture I have. I know it was the markers because it was the first time she had used them and there was nothing else (but the ketchup) on the dress when I put it in the wash. I am pretty bummed. There are a couple other reviews I have found that similar things have happened with these markers. Maybe it was the material of the dress that was sensitive? Just wanted to pass along the information.
While we haven't found stains on anything else (skin, furniture, other clothes, etc.) last night these markers met their match. My daughter came home from ballet wearing a long sleeved leotard (which she had only worn for the second time, and which she had only been wearing for an hour and a half at that point). She went to work coloring in her Frozen Color Wonder book with these markers. She wasn't using any other coloring implement. Yet she ended up with large stains in the same color as the marker all over the sleeves of her leotard! The leotard is made of 90% nylon, and 10% spandex, if that's helpful for anyone.
I haven't yet attempted to wash it out. I'm worried about doing it right so it doesn't set the stain. I will update with my results once I do.
I used to be really comfortable letting her use these markers, and now I don't trust them. I think the ink itself might not stain when applied directly to another material, but once the ink is on the paper, I think it can easily transfer to other surfaces if it's still "wet". You can see in my picture of the page she waas coloring how the color transferred to the page above it as well. You can also see how the color on her leotard sleeves matches the color she was using while coloring that page in her book.
Downside, the color is delayed when she writes/colors. It takes a few seconds for the color to develop.
Also, the lids are hard to snap back on. Be prepared to snap the lids back on for your little ones...over, and over. :)
pros: wont show color on clothes or carpet
wont dry up to fast if cap is left off for long time
cons: oil like stains on walls, non color wonder paper and books
