I'm giving the Crayola Light-up Tracing Pad a tepid review. I ordered two light pads for granddaughters, and I believe the girls will enjoy them. However, upon receiving my order I was surprised at myself, that I had spent $24 on this item. Call me old fashioned, but for that price I'd like to see my item arrive in primo condition. One pad has a big scratch on the screen, which will likely not affect function so much as it's unsightly. Second, the paper is wavy and wrinkled. Were I the young artist, I'd want my materials to be spanking new, no scratches, and flat beautiful art paper.

Cheaply made product, but I suppose it'd be difficult to find another product for less.

I actually had to have this one replaced by Crayola and this one went back to their quality control folks. Oddly enough, the one they sent me to replace it was different than this one, so I'm not sure if this is a knockoff product or what, but it was AWFUL. First, the switch was stuck in the "OFF" position, but when you put the batteries in, the light came on. SInce the switch was stuck in off (and I mean stuck....like it didn't move AT ALL...I don't even know if it could move) you could not turn the light off...it was just permanently on. Then, there were these +/- buttons at the top that I have no idea what they were for because you couldn't push them. It's like this whole thing was fake. Fake buttons, fake switch...the only thing that worked was the light and I was not about to take batteries in and out every time my daughter wanted to use it. I called Crayola, they asked me to send it back to them and they sent me a replacement.....but the replacement looked COMPLETELY different. The function was the same, but there was no weird buttons at the top and the switch was a better quality switch in the back, not on the top. Again, I don't know if this is some knock off product or what, but BUYER BEWARE. If you want the ACTUAL, QUALITY product, go through Crayola or buy from an actual store so you can see what it is you are buying.

My 8 year old loves this! She will trace different designs of horses and then pass the to her 4 year old sister to color! It is simple you place the design you want to trace on the trace pad and then put a piece of paper over top and turn the light on and trace! I just use computer paper paper it works well. I also print out drawings from the computer so that she can trace a lot more different variations.

I purchased this as a lightbox to use in sketching drawings in watercolor. I was concerned that the light wouldn't be strong enough to show through the thick watercolor paper, but it does an excellent job. It would also work well for tracing templates for quilting, or other crafting projects.

I grew tired of my granddaughter tracing pictures on top of the computer screen. I saw the Crayola Light Up Tracing Pad while searching for craft items, and I had not heard of it before but thought the concept was a good idea. I could not have found a more perfect gift for her, and it has been in continuous use ever since she received it. The pad is used by all the younger children, our teenage artist, and I have used it myself for fabric patterns.

I am impressed that after a year it is still working on the original batteries (3 AA batteries) despite not always being immediately turned off after use. This pad comes with a full set (12) of good quality Crayola colored pencils, a graphite pencil, 10 blank sheets of paper and 10 pieces of tracing paper, plus tracing sheets with designs and stickers. You can download additional designs, but my child enjoys tracing figures from coloring books, illustrations from her story books, etc. The paper "locks in" so it cannot slide around. The light emitted is quite bright, and expensive tracing paper is really not needed - we have used plain copy paper after the tracing paper that came with the pad was used up, and it works so well there was no need to use anything else. This toy was a good value and is used frequently.

I have given the Crayola Light Up Tracing Pad 5 stars for the following reasons:
Fairly inexpensive
Low cost to power (3 AA batteries, not included)
Works really well
Children do not tire of it, still in frequent use
Can use low-cost paper with it
Not complicated to use

This is an awesome purchase. With all of the digital toys nowadays, I find it difficult for my kids to be interested in toys that don't talk back or don't put them into a trans. This was a hit with our seven year old. it comes with some images already traced but you can also start drawing and perfecting your own drawings if you 'd like and trace over those as well. You can even trace and color the same thing with different scenarios and colors.

Good bit of kit for the money - especially if want something battery operated. Took a star off because the screen is not A4 - it is too short and too wide to for A4 paper. I've taped sticky notes to the side where the light is not covered by my paper. This helps to diffuse the light and shield my eyes. Can't comment on the sturdiness or how long batteries will last as I haven't had it long enough yet. It is a hard plastic, so don't know how it will fare if dropped on a hard surface.

Bought for my7 year old who loves drawing and is always asking me to draw images from my magazines for her to colour. It’s a very simple lightbox.
Arrived quickly and well packaged. Price is ok, originally saw a few £ cheaper and that would’ve made more sense but really wanted it, prices fluctuate so much at Christmas! It wasn’t the box as in the advertised images- I chose this one as it showed a fashion theme. The tracing sheets inside are fairy & unicorn. I did note from an earlier comment to go online to crayola.com and you can download others and there I found loads more : catwalk, rockstar, animals, faces etc so made a pack to add this. Given 4 stars as seems like a good product but only used a few times since Xmas so shall have to measure durability and how useful it really is.

The product itself was as described, but the address label was stuck onto the box itself, obscuring some of the pictures and detail. Since this is a gift, I have had to carefully remove the label, which took a lot of time. Crayola offer a range of images to download and print off, but these were slightly out of alignment with my printer, and so some were "cut off". The "tracing" paper supplied seems exactly the same as A4 printer paper, so it is not worth buying extra supplies of it. For all that, the light box works well and the possibilities are endless. Maybe more suitable for the upper age range of 5 - 15.
