I originally was thinking of buying this toy for a 4th grade boy i work with who has several mental diagnoses, one of which is ADHD. He is on a points system, meaning that his behavior is charted and depending on the number of positive behaviors displayed that week, he can earn a reward. He likes putty-like toys and i thought this one seemed extra cool. The more i read the more i wanted one for myself, so i ordered an extra. WOW THIS STUFF IS GREAT! i can't put it down. Every spare moment i have i am manipulating it (twisting, folding, bending, stretching, etc.). I never get bored of the stuff. It even bounces. It has a thick texture and your hands have to be kinda strong to get it going. It will warm up and become easier to manipulate after playing with it for awhile. So far it has shown no signs of drying out. I gave it to the boy as a choice of rewards and he passed it over, not seeming too impressed even when i took it out of its container and showed off its capabilities. In its defense i had some other pretty cool stuff to choose from. If you are even thinking about buying this, DO IT. You will be very happy you did.

How to keep those middle school kids from fidgeting during a long discussion? Give them some thinking putty?

My students like the putty and this is a lovely color.

I was really worried that the putty would get dirty -- but that hasn't happened at all! It stayed pliable and clean looking all year. Will definately order more in the fall!

My son enjoys fiddling with silly putty so I thought I'd try getting him this last Christmas. This stuff is better. It not only has superior texture but the color is SO much cooler! Plus, you get a lot in that tin.

This review is in two parts, first Thinking Putty, second the individual color review.

Thinking Putty - This is basically silly putty. Same feel, texture, material (silicone, which doesn't dry out), etc. What is different though is that you get a lot more then those small and even big egg shells. You get 1/5 a pound, or 3.2 ounces. Basically the tin covers your entire palm area easily. Although the tin is half full so it isn't too hard to put it back in.

The other difference is that these come in much better colors, well unless you like the coral pink of silly putty. These colors make Thinking putty special. You can get all the primary colors, red, white, black, blue, green, etc. OK, those aren't hard to imagine. Then there are metallic and electrics. These I believe have mica in them. They are shiny and have swirls slightly darker and lighter colors. I say slightly. Think of a pearl or dull metal. Then there are the color changers. The use heat to change color to a lighter version of the color. Cool to return to the original shade. And the glow in the darks. One color during daylight, another at night. And these do no use the glow material they used 10-20 years ago. This is more expensive but glows some 10X longer. And then there are two special colors. Magnetic, which is slightly or slowly if you prefer magnetic. And glass, which is clear.

For more on these, please see other reviews.

Is thinking color kids? No. Give them silly putty. It is cheaper. If they love that, then give them this. Also this is called thinking putty because it is for adults to mush around while they are thinking. Or think of it like a stress ball.

Electrics - Electric Blue. This is a very light blue that is pearlized.

We looked all over for this product in the stores and couldn't find it. Ordered it from Amazon
for my granddaughter who is 12. She loves it and all this crazy things she can do with it.
Ask if I could get her some of the others types for Christmas.

I had bought this for my 'tween and he (and his 7+ yr old siblings) loved it. It's rather therapeutic playing with it: a pliable putty that can be easily manipulated, torn, and it even bounces. While it isn't sticky and hasn't damaged anything, note that it can get stuck in longer hair. I've since purchased more as party favors for children aged 7 and up. It was wildly popular and most importantly kept them all busy ; )

This stuff is ok. It doesn't clean well and it sticks to everything if left out somewhere. Be aware of that. We've had it in hair, blankets, carpet.....its hard to get out of some things. use rubbing alcohol that should work for most things. Its very fun but make sure your child puts it in its container when done.

My whole family is addicted now and we want to buy more colors. I can't put my finger on it, but we all love messing with this stuff now and think it's way better than any silly putty. It looks so pretty sometimes, the way you can twist it, loop it, etc., and then set it down and watch it kind of morph into itself. Electric blue isn't really electric looking, more like pearl blue, but it's still the coolest thing. It's a nice big handful too. Can't wait to order iridescent!
