Instead of just playing it safe with one similar type of music all the time, this album notes a continuation of Candy Dulfer evolving her talents and bringing new ideas to her brand of music. After long time collaborations with Thomas Bonk, Candy went to Printz Board[of Black Eyed Peas fame] and has created a newer sound, bringing in some new reggae[Hey Now], funk[Electric Blue], and dance tunes[Crazy, Complic8ted Lives]. Those old school fans will be happy as well, as she does have collaborations with Ulco Bed on some new jazz and instumental tunes[No End, Too Close], as well as a funky tune with Chance Howard[Please Don't Stop]. This album does have something for almost everyone that should keep Candy's loyal fans happy as well as bringing in some new fans as well.

If you're a fan of uptempo, good sounding, R&B Funk instrumental music...and if you're not a big fan of the slow and relaxing smooth jazz music that so many albums have on them these days...then Candy Dulfer's new CD WILL KNOCK-YOUR-SOCKS-OFF!!!

However, first I want to say that the 30 second samples at amazon don't really do this album justice. Although, they will give you an idea of what the album will sound like.

Also, I wanted to say that if you are a fan of Candy's 1993 "Sax-A-Go-Go," then "Crazy" is somewhat reminiscent of "Sax-A-Go-Go." However, there's a lot more growth and quality and excellence on "Crazy."

Additionally, this album works together as a whole, in my opinion, therefore, for downloaders, I really don't see the need in only downloading some of the songs, while leaving other songs behind.

But for the rest of my review, I'm only going to highlight my favorite songs on this album.

And starting with the title track, "Crazy," I love this song. I love the beat, the percussion, the fun, and the background vocals in this song.

But I think that the mid-tempoed Reggae-influenced "Hey Now" is probably my favorite song on the album. And I think what really does it for me with this song is what they do with the simple, yet innovative bass synthesizer, starting at around the 1:37 point of the song. And even though simple, what they do with the bass synthesizer is piercing and electrifying...and fun. :-) I just love it.(Also, you need to play this song on a quality sound system with subwoofer, etc., for optimal effect.)

And next I want to mention "Electric Blue," which a very fun, Hip Hop influenced song.

If I recall, as I did pick up several jazz albums from Candy at once and can't remember all the differences, but this album was close to what I would describe traditional jazz sounds. No fusions or nods to, just straight forward jazz.

Although some of the cuts let Candy Dulfer's sax shine through, many of the songs are suffocate it with heavily laden technology-produced sounds. Nevertheless, this album will make you move and dance if you have a pulse.

Someone once wrote that Candy Dulfer is sophomoric in her particular style of playing sax jazz, but I beg to differ. Although she hasn't produced as many albums as her peers, I find this performer just as entertaining as the rest, with a style that has a bit of an edge. This in a good way.

In her catalogue of performance, is her rendition of "Pick up the pieces" which I find to be one of the best that I have heard. Although this track is not part of this particular album, it is worth noting that "Crazy" will not disappoint.

I find Candy Dulfer to be in-par with Kenny G as a sax performer.

Yes...Crazy...so much it's all over the place instrumentally. Many listeners/reviewers call this CD, Funk. Duh! It's all too electro/synthesizer. Candy sounds like she's playing over hip-hop or techno house beats...with over-dubbing vocals...Wooooo! There are some (few) tracks that do get into a 'groove' such as Flame with its dance rythme and sax rifs that just keep going on and on. That's the Candy I like. As she has demonstrated in tracks 12, 14 and 15 with No End, Please don't stop (very sexy!!) and Too Close, she is faithful to her style. This CD was likely a 'project' attempt at breaking into the music trends of the period. Hope her next recording comes closer to home. This one is going to the bottom of the pile in my library even if the jacket and booklet are creative and highlights Candy's photogenic abilities.

This is a phenomenal album! Candy updates her sound on CRAZY adding electronic dance music (EDM) and dub-step elements to her already-amazing jazz funk.

The end result is awesome! This album sounds new, fresh and exciting throughout … and creates a new genre of music: Jazz Pop.

CRAZY is a contempo-jazz album that even young people would groove to. If you are young … buy it! If you are a long-time fan (like me) still buy it … because you will enjoy Candy's maintaining well-composed songs containing strong groove and melody. She doesn't sell out to the kids … she invites them to come along without dumping on her lifelong fans.

The entire album tickles your ears throughout. You never know what you're going to hear next. Being a huge jazz fan I find this album particularly exciting, because it serves as an illustration that jazz can be young-at-heart and fresh … and continue to evolve and progress in exciting new ways!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
