When I first got the book and skimmed through it, I was not impressed. There are a few grammatical errors and it seemed heavy with redundant pictures. However; when I sat down and went through building the application, I was extremely impressed.
Over the years I have read and followed dozens of hands-on books on a wide variety of technologies. This is the first book in which I have found NO ERRORS! The steps are well documented and match the screens exactly. In the interest of full disclosure, I am just now on Chapter 8.
I am using the book with APEX 4.2 so this may change with future versions of APEX, but for now it is a joy to be able to follow every step in the process without having to debug the app or guess at missing/confusing steps in the book.
This is the fifth APEX book I have used. The others were good but in each of them I found areas where the directions did not match the screens or the instructions were incorrect or imcomplete.
Another benefit to this book is the in-depth exposure it provides to development with APEX. It goes well beyond the wizards and shows the reader how to customize the code, processes, and other objects created by the wizards.
I want to thank the author, the technical reviewer, and the editors for the outstanding work they did in presenting what is so far a flawless excercise.
