I bought Scrivener for Windows, and though it was intuitive and easy to use, I needed a little help with e-book production, specifically. Scrivener uses "Compile" to send your work to a single publication, including e-pub, Kindle, Word, pdf, and others. Scrivener has a thorough pdf manuak (about 300 pages), but I was in a hurry, so I grabbed this book into my Kindle for PC and quickly read it. It did the trick. . ..quick and easy. Recommended.

During my search for a similar solution for Windows, I found Scrivener. I had heard of Scrivener and knew it as a Mac only product. I was intrigued enough with the Windows 8.1 ready claims to give it a try. I find the layout and functions a tad uncomfortable and counter intuitive, but could see potential.
After plodding through the step by step tutorial and watching a hand full of well produced videos, I was still unable to produce a Kindle ready document that met my needs. For instance, I wanted no line feed between indented paragraphs. I could not find any guidance on how to achieve this result with a global autoformat option similar to that offered in Calibre.
Sure that I was missing some hidden secret, I decided to buy "How to Create an Ebook With Scrivener." I downloaded to my Kindle Fire and my first impression was one of disappointment with the e-book formatting. I see inconsistencies in line spacing, distracting use of color for headings and an over all amateurish look. So far, I have found nothing adding to the free tutorials and videos.
It seems, my dream of finding an all in one editor that outputs Kindle mobi files that I would be happy with, is not offered by Scrivener. This booklet may be useful to some, but I recommend you save a few dollars and use the free online resources if you want to use Scrivener. I will stick with Word and Calibre.
I returned this book for a no questions asked refund from Amazon. After a bit more research, I found "Beautiful eBooks With Scrivener" by N.R. Wick. This booklet immediately focuses on how to compile e-books, offers helpful tips and is professionally formatted. I am yet again experimenting with Scrivener. I now suspect the limitations of Scrivener that continue to make Calibre a better tool for us is peculiar to the current Windows version. The Apple edition appears to offer far more compile options and we may blow the dust off our Mac, update the OS and try the Apple version. N.R. Wick's booklet is a better tutorial on Scrivener compiling and true to its title; "beautifully formatted."
